Those on a salary (tax changes)

can't tell as my pay changes from month to month by so much (shift worker) but I'm supposed to be a little better off (10 or so a month).

Oh.. wait a minute, tax code is still 647L and week is 12 so changes haven't been made yet, unless I'm missing my latest payslip..
Pay date 01-04-2011.
Thought the changes would have been on that one.

I gained a whopping £30 ish a month. I assume my employer had nothing to do with it.

I rather hope you didnt gain £30 a month - that would make your salary £8500 a year!

My monthly take home went up about £25 IIRC

Again, unless you only earn £13k you've got your sums wrong.

Do people quoting amounts in this thread not realise that you can work out a salary by using the net gain in the new tax year?

Just look at your bank account and compare the payment on 1st May with the one on 1st April

Goes into my hand in cash not the bank so no records like that other than directly counting it out, which I didn't do (bank holiday rush to get away:D )

What's left over after a weekend of self abuse is what goes into the bank. ;)

No matter, I'll just have to wait until the end of May for the next one..

Why on earth would you put up with that? What a backward way of getting paid, and if you are getting a payslip it isnt as if you are getting the traditional cash in hand benefits!

I actually prefer it, they could BACS it if I wanted them to.

Too many times in the past it's, just popping down the shop to get a paper or a pint of milk...
FFFFUUUUuuuuuuuuu
No cash.
Drive to cash point 6 miles away, oh next to Sainsburys now, may as well go in there..
Come out with £50 quids worth of shopping. :(

tbh my last employers paid by BACS but couldn't get it right (used to pay late nearly every month, one month it was the 19th before I was paid!!!!) if you're getting it cash then I don't see an issue as long as you still pay your taxes. just dump it into the bank!

Of course you can tell, do the maths?

The maths tends to get complicated if you have things like health insurance deducted from pay, and/or pension contributions taken out before tax and/or cycle to work scheme payments and/or any number of other things. This will be further compounded by any overtime/travel time you're getting paid for that month. I have a flipping maths degree, and even I find it more difficult than it's worth.

Indeed. It's a career for some of us :p

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldnt the 'Change from 2010' row on listentotaxman.com show you what the increase / decrease should be?

With everyone saying £25-£35 a month increase and then Fox belittling them for earning so little
I have to assume that NO, that "Change from 2010 row" does not show you the increase / decrease correctly as it is showing little to no difference for me.
(like -0.60p)

AHH, if I remove my tax code from that box completely then it shows +£3.25 a week

or +£3.31 if you go about it a different way... Yea helpful. NOT
