I've had my Logitech G5 for many years now and while it still works perfectly well its probably been superceded by superior mice.

I've only just started playing fps games, BFBC2 in particular, and am loving it, depsite being totally rubbish at it. As well as a lot of practice, I also think a couple more buttons on the mouse might help improve my inept gameplay.

So, what's good?

Although the G500 has one extra button on the side I really don't think it's necessary to buy it seeing as there's nothing wrong with your G5. I went from a G5 to a G500 and don't use the extra button - I don't need it :P

Keep your G5.

If your G5 is one of the original Orange ones, then you could buy a second-generation Blue one which has two thumb buttons:

You can also use Setpoint to change scroll-left and scroll-right to simulate keypresses, giving an extra couple of buttons. These are useful for dishing out Medkits/Ammo packs etc.

Done the same myself a while back, g5 was broke so logitech replaced it with a g500. Dont use any of the extra buttons either.

Yes its the original orange one. I'll try out the setpoint software. I prob just had a mild case of the upgrade bug anyway, which seems to have passed, for now.

Theres very little on my rig that I can justify upgrading tbh. I keep looking at SSDs as well but I'm not really prepared to fork out for one until 500GB SSDs become affordable and thats probably a long, long way off. :(

I'm on a Razer Lachesis, I mostly use it at 2000dpi, but I do use the 4000dpi in BC2, when zoomed in on the likes of a black hawk minigun, or other stationary weapons.

I think my Razer Deathadder is really the best of its kind, granted I haven't tried many others, but two extra buttons is all that's really need for BFBC2; Knife+Reload. I also use the scroll to throw grenades but that's just because I'm weird.
