So basically it's my birthday on sunday and I was planning on getting a BlackGold bgt3620.

But was thinking for the £100 it costs, I can basically buy a cheap tv from the likes of Richard Sounds or tesco's technika range, for around £120.

Anybody have any thoughts about this?
Would I get one with a built in freeviewHD?

Only advantage I can think of is the extra screen, but that seems quite a decent advantage to have.

I'm pretty sure you can search both retailers sites by price so if you took a quick look it would answer your question. However, my gut feeling is you'd be lucky to get a TV big enough to make it worthwhile adding a Freeview HD tuner for £120 unless of course it was a one-off stock clearance item.

Someone here might have spotted a special though.... but don't hold your breath.

If you're looking at a tuner card then I assume you already have a HTPC and TV. How would a second cheap TV from Tesco be an advantage, does your current TV needs updating. You'll have to put it in another room and as lucid says a cheap TV will a low resolution won't benefit from a HD feed.

The Blackgold tuner is expensive, have you checked if Freeview HD is available in your area? If you have a Sat dish it might be cheaper to pick up a used DVB-S2 card for around £40 and a dual-tuner Freeview card for around the same price. You'll have a multi-tuner HTPC, record series on the DVB-T tuners and use the DVB-S2 tuner for HD channels.
