as subject considering moving to sb from a q600 based rig

looking at the following:

sb 2600k
asus p67 evo
cosair vengance 1866mhz 2 x 4gig sticks

main uses of pc are wolfenstein enemy territory and bad company 2 for gaming, some editing of photos mainly in lightroom and the odd bit of video stuff in premiere

what im mainly interested in is has asus reputation improved any over the complaints their p67 boards were getting?
has rev b3 / bios updates sorted cold boot problems etc?

asus's reputation hasnt improved one bit.

B3 revision only sorted the faulty sata slots

if your tight for money, an i5 2500k will be nearly as good. its exactly the same as the i7 2600k, but it doesnt have hyperthreading. this means:
- its just as good for games
- it is a bit worse at video and photo editing

As Reaper said, i7 will be slightly faster for video encoding, but I was blown away when I moved from an E6600 C2D to an i5 2500k as my video encoding times dropped so dramatically.

edit: And as also said, stear clear of Asus - I had to RMA a board that froze randomly and ended up corrupting an NTFS volume (first time I've ever had that happen) and I lost a little data (not that important as wasn't in my usual backup set, but annoying nonetheless). Happy using a Gigabyte now.

No problems here, so far built three I7 2600k systems using ASUS P67 Deluxe B3 and so far trouble free running BIOS 1503. No idea how the rest of ASUS P67 range fair...

No problems with my P8P67 Pro so far. I read its not worth getting faster than 1600mhz ram, so I would say spend less on the ram. As other people have said the 2500 is pretty much the same for games as the 2600. I got the 2600 because I video edit.
