Is it just me....

Ok, so lets set it out. I want something fun, yet practical. Primarly, as I see it lasting me 5 years as a first family car. Hence, I like the M3 Saloon, this E61 caught my eye (although warranty and running costs comments I take onboard).

However, the other half says, why not get something now for a 2/3 year period that's completely fun and get it out of my system. She recommends the M3 Coupe or a GTR (the two cars she really likes).

I tried the 6 because there will be a few year old ones kicking around next march and it's still practical. I've also tried the new 5 which I like a lot.

One thing is for sure, it defo won't be a diesel as I don't and won't be doing the mileage anymore bar the odd shot down to the south of France once a year or occassionally up to the airports.

Get an XKR, Iv also got a very reasonably priced new XJ here that has had a smack but been repaired at Jaguar, very reasonable.

I think your missus is right - IMHO there is nothing long term about an M3 family car as I feel energy prices in 5 years time will make such cars sadly irrelevent.

So enjoy it now, whilst you can. £35k buys a nice M3 Coupe. Keep the mileage under 60k and get the BMW Warranty.

Thanks Fox. Would you let year of the M3 affect your decision. For instance, is a 2009/10 car much different to a 2008?

Thanks Mark, I think I'll skip though as I can't get over the interior of the XKs :(

The main difference - as the E92 M3 only got half an LCI really because it didnt get the front end - is the introduction of CIC HDD Based iDrive on cars built after late 2008.

There's something about your approach which reminds me of an almost legitimate used car salesman.....Oh wait.....;)

What happened to it? I thought he only picked it up a month or two ago.

Lucero, just take the diesel golf ; )

Will your replacement car need to be baby friendly?

How much is he looking for it? Email in trust if you like to keep it quiet. :)

No chance mate (as in, to the Golf).

Potentially yes to part two of your quetion given our conversation the other day ;)

; )

I may be wrong but, with the Coupes mentioned would you be intending to pop the baby seat in the back? I have not had to do it, but would I be right in thinking it could be a pain in the backside trying to get a baby all tucked in and belted up with the coupes?

My thoughts would be saloon with large boot, or an estate? Would a 335 estate be a thought, like a 335 Tourer (or 535 if they do one?).
