Apart from loading up massively on included breakfasts (which has it's own pitfalls!) has anybody good ideas about how to eat cheaply and healthily when staying midweek in hotels?

I have no fridge and usually 'cooking' isn't allowed. I'm thinking of trying to combine fresh veg with a sneaky electric rice cooker I've yet to buy.

Any good ideas when there is no per diem!?!?

Big breakfast, lunch with salad and fruit for dinner is my usual attempt when trying to live cheap and relatively healthy away from home.

Haha I know exactly what you mean, I travel around the UK and Europe for my job and am always trying to find a way to eat cheap but still healthy while having no kitchen to cook food.

So much easier when staying in a decent hotel with a minibar in it, can use it as a fridge and just stock up from supermarket.

If there's not I normally just end up having a BIG breakfast, literally stuffing myself and grabbing a piece of fruit and a yoghurt or something to have with my lunch. Can sometimes make a sandwich at breakfast too for lunch. Unfortunately around Europe they serve continental breakfasts (unless in a 4 star etc) where a croissant and a few pieces of cheese just dont cut it :(

Ziplock bags and sneak lots of extra :D Buy what you can't take :p

Or he's self employed and it all comes out of his pocket. There are many reasons for wanting to live cheaply while away from home.

You can't expense dinner?

My preference would be to use the kettle as much as possible.
e.g. you could make noodles and stick some pre-cooked sausage (pepperami or mattesons) in there, a bit of sauce (bbq, reggae) and maybe some salad on the side. easy! All you need is a small saucepan.

You can make buy fresh pasta ravioli etc in the supermarket and cook in the kettle.
