To all those fellow producers on OcUK...

What program/hardware do you use to produce your music?

For me: Reason, With an Oxygen 61, gives amazing results :)

reason is awesome, i also use it along with korg nanokey, and its good fun.

good speakers help also, most computer speakers tend to suck badly ive found

Logic, Pure Data, Ozone 4 are my big three for software. Hardware wise it's an 8 core Mac Pro, a SSL AWS-948 and various PMC monitors. :)

Reason has some great synths and easy to use sequencer, but its a 'closed' system (no VST's allowed!) to keep it efficient.

I've tried Fruity Loops and again it has some fantastic synths but I just can't get my head around the sequencing/mixing system.

Ableton Live is great for sample-based music production, you can chop them to bits and move them around in a sequencer or just play around with them in real time, great fun, but I don't like the built in synths at all, you can use VST's however.

Ableton Live 8 for live performance and live mixing.
For recording sessions I'll track in Pro Tools 8 and then mixdown in Logic 8. Will sometimes use Audacity for normalising.
Hardware wise, an M-Audio ProjectMix (although I'd like to switch to a Digi 003 at some point), and KRK Rokit 6 monitors (I'd like to switch to a pair of Adam A7's).
Also have an Akai APC40 to use with Ableton Live.

I've worked in Soundslive for 10 years so the amount of gear I have in here although less than it used to be is still crazy.

Some of the more used gear is:

TC Konnekt 48, Adam A7x, Genelec 8020 with 7050, Genelec 6010a with 5040b, UAD2 Quad with all plugins, a bunch of Beyer headphones but use the DT880 pro most.
Ableton suite 8, Cubase 6, all NI, Arturia, Soundtoys, Waves, as well as all the other software suppliers we deal with and a selection of outboard gear from Universal Audio, TLA, TC, focusrite and Presonus etc.

I love Ableton and love my UAD2 with all the plugs the most though!
Plenty of Guitars, and a bunch of mics from various suppliers.

Maccy btw if you do decide to go for a pair of A7's give me a shout I'll make sure you get a better deal than the sites. :)

logic 8 pro + reason 4, a load of NI synths, rob papen synths (albino & blue), PSP plugins (they sound bitchin'), macbook pro, focusrite sapphire pro 24, fostex pm01 mkII's

Reason 5 and NI Akoustik Piano running through some little Alesis M320 USB Monitors and a Akai MPK 88 note hammer action controller

edit: with the power of PCs now you just don't need hardware synths, glad I sold them all years ago :)

Used to use Reason a lot, but got a bit frustrated with the closed system. Sold all my synths ages ago after losing interest (miss my Novation Nova :() - I still have a loaded up Roland JV1080 though (with Orch I+II and FX boards) - it's still fun to play with.

I use Sibelius now, as I tend to do what little music creation I get time for in notation. The JV is used for playback but it was an almighty nightmare setting up the instruments as there was no standard file I could find to work from. :(

Just check out DJShayper on youtube for some examples of reason, if anyone is up for a colab on any tracks let me know :)

Hey, as soon as I get my computer sorted I may be up for a colab or two, I'll check out your channel when I'm not at work as I may get some strange looks if I start rinsing out some tunes! ;)

FWIW, I use Reason, Recycle, Logic and Nanostudio.

If anyone has an iOs device, Nanostudio is worth every penny... It's so nice to be able to make tunes while sat in a field in the sun!

Nanostudio recommended yes? Might have to give it a blast.

And yes, what sort of music do you produce? As you can tell from my channel probably I like dubstep. And drum and bass. Nowt else like it for production, especially if you can create some insane synth.

In other news, just got the clean vocals for Chase & Status - Time.

Might have to do a remix TBH :)

The Windows and OSX version is totally free and unrestricted, you only have to pay for the iOs version, so have a play with it before heading to the App store... Nanostudio was one of the main reasons I went for an iPhone over an Android phone, as Android has nothing even close to Nanostudio!

It may seem a little limited compared to something like Reason, but once you get to grips with it you can make to very pro sounding stuff. Just search youtube for nanostudio if you want to see some examples.

I also like Dubstep, D&B, and the odd bit of Breakcore thrown in also...

Here's a tune I made a while back for a competition on DubstepForum, I had to use limited samples, I done most of it in Reason using a ****ton of NNNNNNN-19's:

It's a little rough as it had to submit it by a certain date, I never seen to think my stuff is ever finished if you know what I mean.
