BMW Concept M5

Looks a 3series chavv'ed up.
Not a car which sticks out in a crowd- pretty boring.

Where has all the aggression gone from BMW cars....?

Nice car and all, probably full of innovation, but E39 M5 for me .

Especially now since my best mate just got one, I always wanted one, he just literally tipped me over the edge, time to start saving i guess :D

I agree that the E39 was the best M5 but try finding one that's not knackered, been run by someone who can't afford to run one, or isn't a silly-price garage queen.

E39 M5s seem to come in 2 conditions now and 2 conditions only:
Shagged or Garage Queen for silly money.

I wouldn't touch one with a 50ft pole

I'd personally disagree, after going to view half a dozen with him.

I agree some are in crap condition, but it is like any other car.

He got a belter, 91k, FBMWSH, AP Racing 6-Pot 356mm Brake Upgrade (£2.5k), Facelift model (so all the extra's, including front parking sensors etc), Vanos replaced (under warranty).

Paid £9.5k, which for the mileage, spec and condition is a very good price.

Some are high priced, but again it is like any car.

I'm in - that's all I have to say. No idea how much it would cost to get one over here.

I dont understand from what angle this is from. The E60 M5 is like a quantum leap in just about every regard, its just miles miles better.

Our resident E60 M5 owners Pete & Olly would agree with this opinion too i would imagine. They certainly seemed to at the last meet!

I'd say the "Best" M5 was the e34.

Given the initial "Wolf in sheeps clothing" idea of the M5.

Somehow, the e60 is as far removed from that as you can get!

It all depends what defines best. Without a doubt, the e60 offers best performance, but, I can't help thinking theres a lot lost from the earlier models.

Driver aids etc, the e34 had few, the e28 before it, hardly any.

I also liked the hand built aspect of the e28 & e34 M cars.

*Its gone from a drivers car to a car that can almost flatter the worst of drivers.

They call it progress I suppose... :)

*from my admittedly limited experience of M cars.

Im with you there R420, the E28, E34 era M5 have elements of charm over their simplicity, their classic looks.

The E39 virtually looks like a classic these days in comparison to newer model(s), but is a modern softer version which now sits in a bland 90's era no mans land for me. It was obviously excellent for its time, but it lacks any of the charms of the classics.

Its only selling point now is that they are very fast, and now getting very cheap, especially the pre-facelift models. Good for a fun rag around until something major goes wrong with it. I actually like the E39 M5, but i cant relate at all to anyone saying that they are the "best m5", because i cant see a single way to view them as that.
