6990 vs 590 Triple monitor gaming article

To be honest I would have been disappointed if the 6990 hadn't beaten the 590. It has more Vram and a better multi-screen platform to work with. Still, shows how much grunt these cards have, as well as the ability of high resolutions to bring even those cards to their knees. If I was going up to 7xxx res (and at that point I can imagine money being of no object) I would buy another 6950/6970 or 580 to go with them, give it a little more grunt and make things smoother.

I'm really chuffed with my 6990 eyefinity setup. I'm happy to sacrafice a couple of settings to get good performance on 3x 24" monitors.

Unfortunately you can not add a 580 to a 590 to do a Tri-Sli setup at the moment.

This for me was a HUGE selling point for me when switching to ati. The thought of buying a 590 only to throw it in the trash when I need an upgrade is...well...terrible. Instead my 6990 will sit next to my new card processing away when the time comes.
