Ian Tomlinson unlawfully killed by Pc

I think we can take pride in the way the majority of the police force conduct themselves when compared to many other countries.

We can and even more so when this disgrace is not serving along side those who set a brilliant example of how a police officer should conduct himself.

A push? I wouldn't have called it heavy handed. What happened after was circumstantial.. I could argue with the Mrs and have a heart attack afterwards but it doesn’t make her a murderer..

I don't agree with any miss use of authority by the police but given the circumstances and the degree of the events unfolding I think they were right to use force to maintain control.. Our police service needs all the backing it can get, this, and it's only my opinion, only undermines their authority.

I've worked in the city when riots have been going on right on outside our front door. It's not pleasant. Ian Tomlinson knew exactly what he was doing; walking in front of a riot line is like racing over rail crossing with barriers down.

Agree with that, and it looks despite being told a few time to even try and make an effort to leave or rush himself.

Well said.

The guy could not of been walking any slower they had obviously already shouted at him to get out the way and he was less than co-operative. I would not be ambling along as slow as I could go, with a handful of police and police dogs telling me to move on and get out the way. Obviously his death is tragic however the PC clearly was not looking to kill him by pushing him over.

I have seen harder hits and bigger pushes in school rugby and I have never seen someone then die 5 minutes later! IMO both the PC in question and Mr Tomlinson were extremely unlucky, unfortunatly it seems though blame culture has taken over.

* Im not a police officer or a massive police fan but these people do a job that is thankless and they will take abuse all day and night, like the friendly people in that Notingham video (posted above) yet all those people will be the first to call the police when their car gets nicked or they get mugged or in some cases they have lost a packet of biscuits...

Not at all moosh, perfectly happy with my argument.

Genius reasoning as to why my argument was 'foolish', because I have a cartoon sig!! Surely that means you're a violent man based on your sig?!

What a foolish way to to think ;)

That was just further evidence, it was also a joke.

My other post outlines why it was a foolish argument.

I have been the subject of a malicious complaint, served with disciplinary papers and a related court case had me reamed in the witness box for two hours and warned to calm down by the judge.

My recourse for such a malicious complaint ? Nothing. Goes with the territory. Deal with it.

My mate is suspended at the moment for the accusation of sexual harassment.
He'd gone to a call and the woman was frantic talking about her ex and then started to rant about how she'll never get another bloke etc.
My mate told her she needn't worry about that because she was a very good looking woman.
He's about 1" from losing his job.

I find it astonishing that people are defending this arrogant thug that is Harwood, the shove was with way too much force, he also had been acting like a complete expletive-wit during that day. Ok maybe he didnt think he was going to kill they guy but this only shows the absolute arrogance and stupidity of the guy. IMHO he needs charged with manslaughter.

Tomlinson tried several times to leave the kettled area and was repeatedly blocked, so why wouldn't he stand around with his hand in his pockets?

There are plenty of people in prison for lesser incidents than this but they weren't wearing police uniforms, seeing a thug like him let off lightly reflects badly on the police as an institute despite how many good police people there may be, especially with the attempted autopsy cover up.

Whats that saying..... Patience is a virtue.
The police officer had what was like road rage behind a slow moving vehicle in the outside lane :p

Umm you know him?..you know how well he has performed his other duties day to day with the public?, you know exactly what he as thinking at the time?

TBH ive seen FAR worse acts against the public from the riot squad in Belfast riots.

I think, I just think mind you, I do not know for certain, that maybe, just maybe, he is basing what he is saying on the evidence of his actions throughout the day that the Police tried to hide from the public and during the trial

I do not blame people for thinking that Ian Tomlinson was somehow to blame for what happened, that he maybe provoked the police or that the officer did not push him that hard or that he was under attack at the time, or that medics were then attacked when trying to help him, for the Police lied about these things initially and they were reported and most people trust the Police. It was only after video showed the enormous amount of lies and gaping wholes in their version of events plus a covered up autopsy report was uncovered that the Police were forced to admit to what had happened resulting in the decision we have today. If it were not for civilian witness accounts of mobile phone footage the Police would have gotten away with it.

I dont disagree, the police should have been more patient with him however He should have applied more common sense for the situation he had put himself in. The police do not go looking to hurt people as far as im aware, so if you do as your told and there would'nt be an issue.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and both parties involved could have avoided his death, yet the blame seems to be soley falling on one side which in my opinion is wrong.

Without respect for the police people will continue to push their luck because they will know the police can do very little in a heat of the moment situation without getting the book thrown at them they can't win either way, not a job I would like thats for sure!

The fact that police tried to cover the situation up is totally unacceptable and inexcusable and they should get done for that

He should have moved out of the way, not effectively stood still in front of a row of riot police screaming at him to move. He only has himself to blame.

If he only has himself to blame, then why has his death been held by an informed jury to be unlawful? You can't really get more condemning than that.

Police tend to get away with everything it seems....if not get away, get let off with a slap on the hand and told "don't do that again!"

Apart from the ones that are in prison or sacked, yes?

The ones in prison are multiple offenders :) with hands which have no skin left upon them having been slapped that many times for wrong-doings.

One-offs still need to have some sort of punishment, guaranteed job loss, compensation toward the victim/victims family etc.

A jury are just people with an opinion, they aren't necessarily always right.

I can see exactly what happened in that video, and in my opinion the guy was asking for trouble from the police and that is what he got. Did he deserve to die? No, of course not. Was he stupid? Yes, he was.

When there is this much public outrage (because everyone seems to hate the police), it wouldn't surprise me if that affected this either.

The thing i hate, is that officer singled him out straight away, broke away from the group and pushed him, he was no where near the closest crowd to be deemed as a "threat" or anything as he had his hands clearly inside of his trouser pockets. And the police wonder why they are hated so much? pfft.

That's how you see it.

I see an insubordinate individual disobeying orders from riot police officers, as a result of that he was pushed, unfortunately he fell and later died. He could have had a knife in his trouser pocket? The police don't know that.
