Les Hinks 'found the footage'.

I don't see what the big deal is... he didn't hurt anyone

He's obviously not a very skilled driver, but was clearly slowing down and looking at the blind junctions.

If he'd tried to do something like that at rush hour, that would have been dangerous... but not at that time of the morning!

My statement was genuine... he didn't hurt anyone... ifs and buts will never change that.

I hate the nanny state and arbitrary speed limits... there's a time and a place for breaking the limit & of all the times he could have chosen - he picked the best one imo.

He was no where near the limit of grip, so still had room to maneuver...

If he had crashed in to something/one then I would completely understand why people were getting so irate...

speeding through a town centre and flying through multiple red lights is what I take massive issue with. If he had chosen to film himself blasting down an empty motorway at xxx mph I wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

couldn't give a toss if he hurt someone or not that would just add fuel to fire, the fact he didnt doesnt exonerate anything.

Hold that good thought, till its your kid that gets run over by a ****.

Haven't seen the video but there is never a good time to drive through red lights. Working shifts I'm out on the road late nights / early monrings. I don't want to have to slow down at every set of green lights.

Also, around here, there are lot of street cleaners out in the middle of the roads.

Exactly... I know this will never happen... but a quick summary of how I believe various states of "illegal" driving should be dealt with...

If an accident/injury/death is caused by someone's careless/dangerous driving, inproper use of speed... etc

Then and only then should people be prosecuted for it!

I can drive more safely at 60mph through a town than a lot of people around here can at 20-30mph. However, I would not choose to drive at those sorts of speeds when it's inappropriate to do so... and no, before someone like will gill comes out with it, that is NOT all the time. Conversely, frequently it's not always safe to do the advertised limit.

It's also down to the vehicle... for example, my bike can do 0-100-0 quicker than a significant number of vehicles on the road can make it up to 60 & my main car is more stable at 100MPH and can stop quicker than most cars travelling at 70MPH.

The RS is exactly the same kind of thing... it's a 2009/2010 rally car ffs!

I even covered this in my speed awareness course and they agreed with me...

It should be more dynamic... (I can dream)

So let me get this right.

You don't see anything wrong what so ever with going through several red lights?

Wow.

Driving a capable car does not make a blind bit of difference to how other road users use the road.

shocker as biker claims superiority and godlike abilities, who knew?

Thanks for clarifying my point... no one was run over by a **** :P

The point is if everyone drove like that, ie. a complete **** then there's a lot more potential for accidents. If nothing is seen to be done about this then your average chav is going to think "oh it's ok for me to drive like a **** as long as it's quiet". More idiots thinking it's ok = more potential for accidents. Sure he didn't hurt anyone but that was down to pure luck. He might not get so lucky the next time.

In short, I guess the police would feel they pretty much need to be seen to be making an example of this to dissuade idiots from thinking they can get away with it as long as it's quiet.

A red light is there to indicate priority, it does not give right of way.

I'm not condoning shooting through red lights, just stating the facts. The blind lighted junctions, he slowed down for to observe... at that time of the morning, there is nothing wrong with jumping red lights as long as you can see what's coming or can see far enough to know that nothing will cross your path before you can safely clear the junction.

shocker as biker claims superiority and godlike abilities, who knew?

lol... I said it can do that... I didn't say I can ride a bike like that... in fact, I ride incredibly carefully... I've seen so many idiot car drivers on the road who simply fail to spot you, it's never worth pushing it on a bike on these roads.

That time of the morning though, I'd likely be riding a little quicker than normal thanks to the reduced traffic risk.

I haven't even had the chance to take a bike to a track yet... I'm the first to admit that my riding ability isn't the best.

Give me four contact patches though and I'll be off like a shot :P

Fair enough apologies for my assumptiveness,

bear in mind though if you were riding around town at a 'quicker than normal' rate and an ford RS hits you no amount of power ranger armour or Les Hinks driving skillz will prevent you from being more than likely dead

I'm not however going to budge on my view that Les Hinks, sorry "the driver" in this video is a ******* or epic proportions and that driving like that is never acceptable unless they turn the route he drove into a rally stage.....

So which one is it? Idiot car drivers don't see bikes when normally observing the roads or car drivers can go through reds as long as it is clear? - and you've just stated that many drivers don't see bikers. You've just proved my point.

You'd be riding a little quicker, going through a green light and potentially not be seen by someone who's been driving on the wrong side of the road and going through reds - you're happy with this?

I'm not trying say I'm the perfect driver, I'm just not stupid.

I have the solution for that! Kill all the chavs...

Realistically, you're right & that's the reason why I stated my ideal scenario would never happen. There are just too many idiots out there that can't be trusted to judge when and where is a reasonable time to play.

However, on the specific occasion of the driving in the video, I do not have a problem with what he did.

In short, I guess the police would feel they pretty much need to be seen to be making an example of this to dissuade idiots from thinking they can get away with it as long as it's quiet.

And that I have a problem with... making an example of someone who hasn't actually done anything wrong.

You MUST NOT move forward over the white line when the red light is showing. Only go forward when the traffic lights are green if there is room for you to clear the junction safely or you are taking up a position to turn right. If the traffic lights are not working, treat the situation as you would an unmarked junction and proceed with great care.

really?

I think you would have a hard time finding sections of that video where a law wasn't been broken!

I'm all for empowering speeding when safe to do so but quite honestly this video is not the right cause to champion. Everyone can hold their own opinions but I would urge you to walk away from this one before you fall on your sword!

While true... it's another hypothetical that didn't happen in this instance.

The truth of the matter is, we can't judge exactly what his driving ability is... which, for the most part, is where my argument lies.

However, he did not cause any damage to people or property, so I'm never going to condemn him for it.

I'm not however going to budge on my view that Les Hinks, sorry "the driver" in this video is a ******* or epic proportions and that driving like that is never acceptable

Fair enough

unless they turn the route he drove into a rally stage.....

How awesome would that be?

So you'd trust this driver with your children in the car, doing what he did?
