First taste of bangernomics:D

**** that, just keep buying these.

I had one that cost me £400, was tatty, cleaned it properly spent about £100 so i could transport people without silly comments, it broke 6 months later and i scrapped it. £500 for 6 months of comfort driving. bargain!

Thats true those XJ40 are the ultimate bargain with the best ride this side of a Rolls Royce, nothing comes close to that ride but that stupid LED dashboard and all the error messages is just too much to put up with.

I got me a vectra too the other day, good cars! ;)

I like my £500 banger.

10 month mot, 1 month tax, 45k miles, recent cambelt, fsh, runs fine and plenty fast with 170bhp and decent handling. Even working aircon!

Shame its gold, but what dya want for the money?

Shame the MR2 gets no use now because the Xsara is more fun and I don't give a crap if I stuff it or it gets keyed etc!

Pretty happy with my banger too - sub £600 to buy - thing is though, to keep it , it'll keep costing me its WBAC valuation every time it needs something....
£400ish for a set of decent tyres,

Same again for a full service,

Not to mention £200+ this weekend on new discs & pads.

purchase price appears to be king, even though you will often end up spending more than you paid for the car in servicing, maintenance and repairs over your ownership period..
(Taken from the e60 woes thread)

This is so true. - The fact my old man got offered under £600 for his e39 is what made me think "Sod it, I'll have that!" :o

Short of stacking it, I won't lose on the purchase price, but do expect some hits if I keep it for too long though.

I do wish you'd stop banging on about it being a sub £600 car though - we both know it isnt and you bought it off your Dad. You got a great deal but it isnt typical of £600 cars.

it would be like my Dad selling me his E60 for £7k and me going round in £7k cars threads on here saying LOOK WHAT I GOT £7k, LOL.

Lol @ thread...

For 400 quid you've done well there, anything with a decent MOT to it has got to be worth that, let alone the full 12 months...

I've done something similar recently and treated myself to the nearest and cheapest car with a towbar I could find. £600 worth of Mondeo estate...

I would just like to make it clear that this has nothing to do with being skint/the twists and turns of real life. I am in fact very wealthy and travel extensively. I go to far flung places like Milton Keynes without even thinking about it, and a couple of weeks back I even went to Birmingham!
Just thought I'd put that out there to inspire others. If you have the drive, you too can achieve your dreams... :o

My 2005/55 plate vectra above was £0 with 12months road tax, new mot, new tyres at the front, and a service 2000 miles ago

Also had a 2007/57 Mercedes Benz CLS320cdi, which was £0

Moral here is that family deals are not always representitive of real values ;)

Family deals are the best, but unfortunately my lot don't change cars often, and if they did I'd have had a Citroen C3, or an E reg Nissan Micra. :p

This is bargain motoring, £180 with MOT and a month's tax. 200bhp and LSD as standard, combined with Recaro seats and it even came with a new-ish CD player. :p

That is pretty good i will give you that! Did it last long? :) I remember those 600s from when i was a child, fond memories of a friends dads 620ti when we were about 10 doing 120+ down the M40, we thought it was the best thing ever at the time :D

I know that feeling, no ****er related to me ever pays for a car :D

This was a 620ti, it was fantastic. Really wish I'd kept it but the economy was sub 30mpg, which grated after a while with the miles I do. :p

It lasted fine, and is now living with a work colleague who does 15 miles to work each way, everyday and it's without issue. Just ticked over to 200,000 miles too.

When I had it, the clutch was being a bit of a pain, and being the mentalist I am, I changed it when I was bored one weekend. Only £50 and it was much nicer to drive afterwards. Oh and an ABS sensor was playing up, £10.
