Running costs

S2000s sound so cheap after reading all these running and servicing costs.

He not tempted by a Last of the line GT100 model?

Im not kidding, see that Boxster i just picked out, i bet that cost less over the next 2 years to run than a S2000. Or no more if not less.

Its just the initial cost to buy is higher.

No idea what a GT100 is but he drove a 2006 S2000 when he was looking about a year ago and decided it didn't feel fast enough. They probably are very quick cars but the way the car drove didn't feel like it was a massively quick one.

He does like the looks and everything though.

It's missing SatNav, he'd never use it but doesn't that really effect resale.

Any options worth looking out for on Boxster S'?

I didnt notice it dosent have nav, that is a desirable option but the price is reflected on that car.

Desirable things on them are Bose, PASM but thats not so important with 18 inch wheels, heated seats which its got, i think thats a very reasonably priced car.

surely he has saved another few £k since this thread started?!

Yes he has.

To be fair though none of you really know me? If I'm here asking for a spec me a 335i your no better positioned apart from a few internet posts which tell you what I want you to see.

The guy can basically save at £1k per month, he has a total of £18k at the moment. He wants a very fast, very flashy car, soon. He has no other unusual financial situations and will not consider a loan or new car.

He has no kids, a GF and rarely needs his car to ever carry anything big so he can have a 2, 4, 5 or 7 seater.

He assumed a Boxster S would cost £1k a month to keep on the road and I said for that surely a 911 is a much better bet - but it's gonna take him another 8 months to save for that.

Currently drives a Focus ST (trade value included in his available money) and doesn't want to own it for any longer than he has to. Minimal (less than 10k) mileage a year and would prefer to change cars this summer than wait really. 22 years old so insurance not really a problem (Boxster S is about a grand, confused.com came up £1600 for a 911).

Now has £20k.

Ah. Earlier in the thread £20k porsches were being talked of, so thought his budget had already gone up.

No, he had £18k at the time and had ear marked to spend £20k, but crucially wanted to buy the right car at the right price and not just spend £20k and either get a 911, Boxster S, 350Z etc... so he set a budget of up to £25k depending on car but obviously would have to save longer for this.

I get about 150 miles of fuel from the top of a full tank till the petrol light comes on, and around 9mpg average.

The sound it makes and the effortless overtaking and the fact its like your armchair with a rocket on the back means its impossible to drive it slowly.

80l tank + 150.9 optimax is £120

so thats £120 for 150 miles, easily done!

You need to dump that and get a diesel 4x4, its madness blowing 700 quid a week on squirt dosent matter how much money your getting.

Its getting a bit mad now tbh, petrol prices are going up and up, tax is going up and up, but investment ROI isnt going up and up. Hence the new thread!

Was thinking about LPG for the amount of miles I do the other day which actually means I could run the 5.0SC and get around 25mpg ?

Yea maybe, i just wouldnt be bothered, buy a diesel for work and something nice for you time.

I always wanted an F40, but I cant see myself owning one now even if I could afford to buy 10 of them. Insurance, fuel cost, risk of theft, the law almost being on theives side (like not being able to hurt an armed thief in your own home without being arrested and sued for it) just makes it impossible to have nice things that stand out.

How though?

Servicing is silly cheap on Hondas (£180-£220 every 9k)

Oh and that AMG sounds rediculously expensive to drive! :o

And servicing on a Boxster is 400 quid every 20k miles :)

Then of course you got tyres and brakes etc, but even that isnt the end of the world, the secret of running a Porsche for reasonable money is you buy the right, newish car to start.

Thats why this kid is better buying a late Boxster than a 7 or 8 year old 996.
