Hello all.

I will soon have a lot of video work to do and will be heavily using After efects and premier pro.

My current rig is simply not up to the job.

E6600
2GB DDR2 6400
Onboard gfx

It's a budget dell vostro - a couple of years old. The mobo will take up to 4GB DDR2 but only has 2 slots - which are full.

I have a few bits and peices lying around which include,

Many hard drives.
A decent PSU
2GB of ddr2 5300

So, as far as i can see i have 2 options.

Buy a new mobo which will allow me to OC the CPU and have all of my DDR2 in use 2x6400 & 2x5300 = 4GB ( i refuse to buy more DDR2 as its expensive and old tech).

Or, go for a new setup (i3? Phenom II quad core?) with ddr3.

Well, basically. I dont care about anything else but being able to run & render at a decent rate. I am very poor so i would like to spend the absolute minimum to acheive reasonable results.

And what do you guys think about adding a low end cuda enabled card to the setup? Would it make any noticable difference?

I hope you can help.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that there is a limited list of supported cards for GPU acceleration in Premier/After Effects.

I'd Google it but I am at work.

Thank you guys. Very much appreciated!

In terms of saving money, would a AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 840 suffice?

Or would it not make enough noticable difference from the E6600?

As for the cuda support, i had no idea it was limited. I'll look into it.

Thanks again!
