i remember buying this on dvd about 6 years ago. inside the dvd case were clues to look out for during the film.
i watched the film and it went straight over my head and never felt the need to return to it since.
is it worth giving another shot? can anyone give some pointers as to just what was going on?

One of my favourite films - and yes go back to it. It took me 3 or 4 watches before I decided what I think he was getting at, but that's kinda the point with Lynch films.

The lady singing on stage scene is amazing, I'm not sure what it is about it, but it's really powerful

the most stand out part of the film for me. was when she got to LAX and it all seemed a bit too welcoming and perfect and i thought he was essentially trying to say that many people go to LA chasing their dreams and most get chewed up and spat out but continue to be attracted by its fakeness.

was i barking up the wrong tree?

From what I remember, the first half is the main character's idealised version of her self and how she thought people viewed herself in hollywood .... then when it switches, its about her guilt and failures that lead her to eventual suicide.

I actually studied this last year. Really interesting interpretations of it floating around online.

I fall on the side of the dream. The box is essentially what holds that dream, and when opened it unleashes reality. With that homeless dude being like some kind of guardian over it.
