Men of War question...

Hi! Just played through the demo for Men of War:Assault Squad and quite enjoyed it (although it's a lot less forgiving that other WW2 RTS games I've played!). However - I've only interested in the single player element of the game and I know that Assault Squad is aimed primarily at a mulit-player audience.

So....my question is - how good is the single player conent for this game? Or....am I better off buying Men of War (which I've also played the demo of) which seems to have slightly worse graphics, is reported as being even harder than Assault Squad, but which does have terribly good voice acting ;)

Answers on a postcard to the usual address...:)

Thanks in advance for your help and guidance...

Cheers,

TC

Men of War Red Tide is purely single player.

I unfortunately didnt know this when I bought it, I just assumed it would have multiplayer.

Well those people who play total war games multilayer prefer men of war as a better game for multilayer.

As far as I know red tide is not only single player fairly sure it has multilayer.

Edit: oh well appears it does not have multilayer how odd :o

Just played around with it for an hour or so...initial impressions are very good.

The first mission is the same as the demo - only with a save option - which is a good thing as the AI seems a lot sharper than in the demo. I lost my tank a couple of times to AT grenades!

Having finished the first mission I've had a quick peek at the second mission (which looks daunting as there's lots of units to command) and the "Allies" first mission (which looks as if it's going to play like "Commandos" - hope so!).

So - based on this limited view I'd certainly recommend it - for £4 you can't go too wrong :D

Yeah the campaigns in MoW are great, most fun I've had playing an RTS ever. A few less long stealth missions replaced by more big epic battles would have been good, but still great. And that second mission (the train yard?) is awesome. :D

Decided to get AS since its on sale as well, shame theres only 4 or so more skirmishes than there was in the open beta as I rarely play the multiplayer proper, but still each of those skirmishes (8 in total?) bar the first tutorial one will no doubt take 60minutes plus for relative rookies like myself, so still a fair chunk of gameplay for the sale price even if you don't play mp much but want more MoW. EDIT: Ignore me there are 16 skirmishes, just in singleplayer they have to be unlocked by completing the previous one

Hopefully theres a few custom skirmishes out there and a quick google shows that the dynamic campaign mod has been upgraded to AS now as well, so thats atleast a few more hours I'll sink into it.

Does Men of war have any Skirmish options, so you can go against the AI with like a specific force, Similar to company of heroes butwithout the base building or is it campaign only?
And online is it co op campaign or what?

Cheers

Been trying the Train Yard Mission a couple of times tonight

Soooooo close last time - must make better use of mines on my next attempt...

Just a tip: hold right click and drag to lay all mines the soldier possess in that direction. Also, shift and click will work (shift works with orders).

Only assualt squad has a skirmish mode, but its not CoH style just you attacking the AI along a series of defensive lines, though they get reinforcements and will repeatedly push you back if you let them so its a bit more dynamic than it sounds.

The whole of the original's campaign can be played coop as well as assualt squads skirmish maps.

Also a mod for both that creates a dynamic campaign where out of game you pick out an army from range of units depending on when you choose the campaign to run, then it makes a 'map' that is split up into various sectors that you fight for in game. Win at one area and you move on to the next sector loose and you may get pushed back an so forth, bit more to it but that's the jist. Can be a bit tricky to set up as it deals with out of game stuff to set up the campaign but once you've done it once its easy.

AI was a bit flaky last time I tried it and I found the amount of units I received to be really tight compared to the AI but still pretty fun to play given that you get to carry your army throughout multiple fights.
