Hi all,

I'm getting a new kitchen sorted but am at a bit of a loss as to reliability vs brand... a mate of mine has been a washing machine repair tech for a long time and last time I spoke to him he highly recommended Bosch.

Can anyone shed any light on AEG, Bosch, Zanussi etc for appliances - eg: Washing machine, Electric Oven and Dishwasher?

I'm trying to avoid spending *too* much money as I may just end up renting the place out after a few years, mid-range is fine by me.

Cheers!

By the research my mum did things in our house have drifted from Electrolux to Bosch over the last decade. Think it's nearly all Bosch now actually? Don't know, don't live there!

Definitely got some stacking Bosch washer/dryer, and think the fridge/freezer next to it is the big B a well, dishwasher, yes Bosch too... No faults with them.

Miele for washing machine. Top price, but will last. Zanussi we have oven and hobs, okay but seems to be wearing heavily after 10 years now.

Bosch is also lasting well for dishwasher, 5 years so far and only had to replace the top pull out draw as the wheels snapped.

Cheers, all.

I've been looking at Howden's, Wickes and B&Q and am playing them off against one another at the moment. The only really annoying thing about Wickes is that they don't do Bosch, however they do have AEG. Howden's don't seem to do Bosch dishwashers either. :(

As far as the integrated thing goes, I'm wondering if I'm just better off getting free standing stuff (already doing this for fridge and for washing machine) so I have more choice, maybe I'll save money this way by shopping around more too... what a pain! :p

Integrated does look much nicer but seems like a pain to swap out when it goes wrong...

Free standing means in the event of failure it is easier to replace, but depends heavily on the look that you are trying to achieve in the space. You could build in doors to cover free standing units of standard size, which gives you the best of both.

Good idea. I think I need integrated oven, hob and dishwasher to keep the look in all honesty. Stuff like Microwave can sit on a worksurface as they are 2 a penny, and replacing an integrated one looks like a PITA/expensive.

Has anyone got experience with Samsung or AEG?

I'll be ordering a new kitchen soon as well and from what I've been told Miele sits firmly at the top of the brands followed by AEG, Neff and Bosch.

I'm ordering my kitchen cabinets from Howdens and getting the appliances on the internet where they are far cheaper. Make sure you do shop around because these kitchen companies often make their money on selling the appliances - you really don't need to buy the appliances from them.

I'll be buying the following brands for my appliances:

Elica cooker hood - not sure exactly which one yet but it'll be 60cm. I've heard excellent things about Elica hoods and their reliability. Also, unlike many other cooker hood manufacturers Elica actually specialise in making them and it certainly shows in the quality.

Bosch gas hob and built under double oven - again, heard loads of good things about Bosch and my family have used them for years without any issues.

Samsung american fridge freezer - these just seem like really good value for money. I'll certainly be staying away from Whirlpool which have caused my parents a whole load of issues and seem overpriced to me.

AEG washing machine and tumble dryer - my parents just bought them and I'm very impressed with the quality. They got a 5 year AEG guarantee thrown in as well.

Integrated is the way to go if you want your kitchen to look neater. Again, you don't need to buy the integrated appliances from the kitchen company either. I'll be buying all of mine separately as they'll all pretty much standard size.

Blah blah blah I was the Quality Audit Technician for Creda/Hotpoint/Indesit/Ariston/Belling/Cannon for 27 years blah blah blah.

Stay away from the first four above - you have been warned because they are now made in Poland where they don't care.
I attended 1000s of quality meetings and the company always wanted a quality track record of Bosch which they would never get because of cost cutting.
Me & my 4 ex colleagues all own Bosch appliances.
If you can afford then Miele is a good choice with Siemens also being up there.

I also had to test the above products in a Lab and send results all around the world.

I've gone bosch for all my cooking applicances oven, hob and hood. I couldn't justify the extra cost for everything.

I think AEG, Neff, Bosch and Siemens are all the same company. Certainly Bosch, Siemens and Neff are all closly associated.

Bought an LG direct drive washing manchine 18 months ago
Very good price considering 10 years parts and labour warranty

And its by miles the quietiest washing machine ever. We cant hear our own washing machine but can hear neighbours from both sides (townhouse).

Would absolutely recommend them if you want to do your washing at 3am without risk of neightbours coming round to complain ;)

Get your written quotes and take them to B&Q and use their price promise.
They will always beat any lower like for like quote by an extra 10% of the lowest price. Excluding their own of course. :)
