Passat 1.9 tdi se 130

Hi,

I’ve been offered the above car full service history 2 owners it’s a 02 reg but the mileage is 129,000 the cars in mint condition. What should i look out for and are the engine bullet proof for that type of miles?? (never had a car with that many miles)

The truth is i went against the advice from the forum a few years ago and got a 206 dturbo sw.
And it’s awful : ( its really that bad and my dads offered me the passat for a £1000 i may snap his arm off.
 
reliability not been a problem just the following pedals to near each other, when going above 70mph you get road noise, ect my lads now 2 and only just fits into the back of the car. The seats hurt when sat for any lenth of time. but thats my fault for buying a 206 :( but hopefully the passat will be ok for a few years.

My girlfriend had a 206 and I couldn't cope with the pedals, had to be so careful not to mash two at once because they were so close together. Small footed french weirdos....
 
Ive done over 140k with the same engine PD130 its only ever needed an alternator belt just make sure its had PD oil all its life.
 
Yep. PD oil to VAG spec is important. 130 engine isn't bad to work on so labour charges for servicing shouldn't be too bad. Bit more refined than the older 90 or 110 BHP cars and a more sensible layout.

Don't use veg oil as fuel. Will kill the VAG PD diesels. Unsure about biodiesel.
 
Are the 115/130/150hp engines good for this era of
passat/golf?

Are injector/dmf issues just as likely with these as say other diesels from around 2002?

Depends what you mean by good?

These engines are PD (unit injector) which has similar benefits to common rail but on the whole is a lot more reliable than the early common rail engines. If the engine has been serviced correctly with the proper oil then engine is pretty much bulletproof until they've done huge mileages.

There's the odd issue with the DMF but it tends to affect chipped cars that have been driven hard.

The engine develops a lot of torque which arrives very quickly (usually referred to as the PD shove) but they're a bit less refined than the equivalent common rail PSA engine.

I think it's a brilliant engine, but then again I'm a little biased.

I agree with MagicBoy. They are brilliant engines, which are very strong and reliable. Yes theyr'e agricultural but they do go very well for what they are. Economical too.
