It if was for example Chris it would be Chris' car and not Chris's

If his surname was Thanks then that would be the case. However, it would be Thank's if his surname was Thank.

I'm not the best at English, but I know it's thanks, my parents for some reason think it's "thank's"

OP - you've posted 16,000 times on OcUK. Have you ever seen somebody type 'Thank's' ? If so, think about the amount of times 'thanks' has been typed instead
