Mate's New Purchase

I can see the appeal of old mini's but after seeing the state one ends up in after an accident
I can agree 100% with this

I hit another car side on at about 60mph and push it sideways through a brick wall with my first mini
To say there was not much let of my mini would be an understatement...

You cant not buy cars on the off chance you smash them, shape up :)

Bearing in mind that it'll take a lot less to smash an old mini than a newer car. I've had my fair share of accidents when I was younger and was glad of the extra bonnet that capri's gave. When I smashed up a CRX I realised that small cars are a lot less safe.

I've now grown up and touch wood have been accident free for over 800k miles. But still young lads think that once they have been given that little piece of paper that says they can now go out and learn how to drive unaccompanied they believe they are driving gods.

Most of us have been there and done it.

I have a son who's going to be 17 in a couple of months and it scares the stuff out of me. I've lost a few mates to accidents and I believe I may only be here through luck rather than good driving.

They do look smart those old minis but like everyone says Id rather be in a crash inside a tin can than one of those

Plus It doesnt matter how good or how safe you are there is always a nutter coming the other way.

I was in a car with a mate the other day and he was taking the racing line through the countryside until I pointed out what would happen if there was another him coming the other way doing the same thing..

Never drive faster than you can see or stop.

Anyway off to blow the cobwebs off my 55 AMG its a nice day and the sun is out so roof isa coming down

The great thing about these (and any other classic really) is that other than maintenance, you won't lose any money on it.
That alone makes it better than any saxo or Clio.

I'd love one of these but I think it would be physically impossible for me to fit inside one of them.

Plus its an icon, that right there is a good British icon.

Awesome little British icon car, certainly gains some cool points...

However
£3000 !!!!!!!!!!!!
Not enough power to pull my foreskin back.
Crash it and you're as good as buried in it.
You will be welding it up every year for every MOT

So on those points I wouldn't entertain another one.
Yes, another one! I had one and I crashed it. If I'd have been carrying a passenger, they would be dead (or have no legs at the very least), The dashboard/bulkhead ended up on the passenger seat! Bear in mind I was in a village with a 30mph speed limit (not that I was doing 30 mind you :o )

Thing is that if it's your first car you are very likely to crash it and in a mini the crumple zone is your knees.

You're not very likely to crash it at all. If you drive like a *** you're likely to crash it, but believe it or not most people get through their early driving years without stacking their cars!
