What if consciousness is just one observer?

We think people have a separate and individual consciousness but what if there's only you, your awareness in all forms, you would be experiencing everything the universe has to offer, good and bad.

How would the world change with such a discovery?

The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

I am you, you are me. I am my own creation and my own imagination, you are also a creation of my imagination and everything you think is happening in my imagination.

;(

Well by that logic I'm certainly very creative and imaginative. If you're right, I'm a solipsist thinking about a solipsist talking about themselves. Or is it myself....

To quote Bill Bailey - "Two solipsists walk into a bar, and one says to the other..."

It would change nothing. The universe that you perceive IS a construction of your mind, nothing more. Whether there is a real world that your perception is linked to, that is also perceived by other conscious beings, is completely academic - YOU are born, you perceive, you interact with YOUR reality, and YOU die. Your reality is now gone forever.

You cannot, nor can anybody else, ever, determine whether what you experience is in any way related to anything outside of your consciousness.

Why would you pity someone for thinking or contemplating existence etc...

Just because he thinks about these kind of questions on occasion doesnt mean he isnt focused on his life or doesnt know what is important to him.

You havent given him any knowledge, all you have given is your opinion, for what it is.

What it does illustrate is that perception of reality is subjective to the observer though.

In essence the OP's viewpoint is correct; life, the world & everything - existence - only 'exists' while you are alive to experience it. 'Your' universe dies when you do.

The problem with this viewpoint is that if everyone believed it then everyone would be far more self-seeking and narcissistic; only out to live their lives to the detriment of everyone else. Chaos and the breakdown of order and 'society' really
