Court Summons

I think I was very lucky as I was caught doing 47 in a 30 and had the standard 3 points, £60 fine. If I had been going slightly quicker I would be in the same situation.

Follow the guidelines as mentioned above, my brother was very apologetic when he went to court a few years ago and was left off very lightly

One of my speeding convictions was for 50 in a 30, got the summons and plead guilty by post, rather than bothering to go to court, I got 5 points and £120 fine (this was whilst working on placement as a student so £16k income and not a staggering amount of outgoings)

You still have to go to court if there's a chance of an instant ban.

Apologising certainly seems to be the way to go. Making excuses is just another way of saying you're above the law because of your circumstances, and that doesn't go down well.

Different scenarios, but a manager at work got away with undertaking coming off a roundabout at 90mph on a 60mph road on a motorbike and the next week for talking on his mobile while driving. Both times he apologised to the copper and admitted he was at fault. On the 90mph motorbike occasion the policeman said "I'm not going to report you, but I want you to understand that this is a bollocking" and that was that.

Getting caught by a camera and getting caught by a Police Officer are two different things though. Leniency tends to go out of the window where cameras are concerned.

Yip. Shouldnt be driving if she cant really tell the difference between 52MPH and 30MPH

I got caught doing 51 in a 30 zone & had 6 points on licence at the time. When I got the NIP I wrote on there I know I was in the wrong but please don't ban me as I need my car for work. Got 5 pts & £125 fine

I wouldnt care if it was about 33 in a 30 but 52? Your speedo was probly reading 55. No excuse. You should be banned.

Don't we all? Lets just get rid of bans because we all need our cars, right?

Don't hate the player, hate the game. I used it in my "defence" too (it wasn't a defence as such, I pleaded guilty but you know what I mean)

I got caught doing 53 in a 30 in 2008

I received 6 points and a £265 fine. I pleaded guilty by post.

They expire in 2 weeks :D

Not in the eyes of your insurance company, 106 weeks to go for you I think :(

She also does mobile hair dressing now and again coupled with driving to work and picking up our baby from places so a ban would be a bit of an issue.

Maybe she should have thought about that before doing twice the speed limit.

Having said that, a ban would be unlikely unless you are actually doing over twice the limit.

A ban for only 22 mph over the limit? Bah punishments are harsh over there :(.

She didn't.

And I thought punishments were harsh here... You'd have to drive at least 30mph over the limit to get a ban here.

52 mph on urban 30 mph dual carriageways isn't that special ( of course I don't know the location, time, situation, etc, but a 30 mph zone doesn't always necessarily mean a built up busy area) and this is hardly such a big offense that a driver deserves a ban for it.
