JDM Mitsubishi Lancer 1500cc

Morning folks,

It's not a mad impulse buy due to the baby. I've already got a big family car, Forester Turbo. Sadly it costs a fotune to run.

also, could I get 3 mtn bikes plus riders and their gear in the back of a Micra.....? :)

Thanks for the one or 2 non smug replies.

I'll buy a vulgar BMW next to keep you all happy

which is?

That it is a import with suspiciously low mileage, so it has almost certainly had the clocks rolled back at one end of the boat or the other.

It's not a major deal really, just try not to factor 'ooo, low mileage' into your purchasing decision because in truth the car has probably done more than twice what it is saying on the clock :).

You could do so much better for £4k?

People seem to be trying, but it is falling in deaf ears.

£4k will get him into a tidy example of a late MK3 Mondeo estate with whatever engine he wanted all day long. If he 'MUST' be different then something like a Saab or a Volvo are a better bet still.

Exactly

Much rather have a refined v70 or even a st estate than this 1.5 tin can..

1.5 estate

good on fuel though eh:D

I had one of them as a hire car in Cyprus last year, whilst not entirely the same as it was a 4 door saloon, but it had the 1.5 engine and auto box.

Firstly the seats were terrible, I was glad the island of Cyprus is only small as it meant less time would need to be spent in the car. The interior plastics were of a poor quality, with rattles and squeaks from all round the car.

I'm sure the engine was in there somewhere but it was slow and lethargic attached to an auto box that didn't seem to care what gear it selected, it was constantly changing it's mind and the fuel economy was terrible, I didn't work out any MPG figures for it, but I would estimate them to be in the low 30's at best.

Really, please consider an alternative, I would rather have spent the two weeks driving round in an Austin Allegro!

1. Buy the Lancer
2. Wonder why you did when there are a million other better cars out there for the same or less (if they were good there'd be more of them)
3. ????
4. No profit :(

Try some other cars before making a decision, such as Accord estates, Mondeos, Vectras etc. Don't just buy it because it's 'cheap' and has low miles. Also, won't you have at least some difficulty insuring it (in cost terms at least) as it's not a UK car?

Thankyou ;) lol! I have had this arguement with many people about how inappropriate my car is for a family.

Sod 'em lol! I can fit everything in there no problems. I am the only one who has to fit the car seat in and jam stuff in so I really dont know why people think they need to comment lol!

Back on topic seriously op if your worried about bikes get a bike rack, I have a tow bar one (yeah I know i shouldnt have a tow bar on a gti) which fits 2 bikes.

Seriously dont buy a new car because of a baby it will be a hurried, unneccesary purchase.

Hi folks,

Good to see my original post sparked so much hate. :)

I'm picking the Lancer up on tuesday. It's only costing me £700 cash plus the 207 trade in. I'm getting more for the 207 than i would selling it so that's good.

I know it's a pretty bland car but I'm not interested in having all the bells and whistles that I could have on say a Mondeo. It's a 1.5 engine so it's only £130 to tax per year.

I've got some new front pads being fitted and a bit of paint touching up on the bumper before I collect it.

In a weird way, I think it actually looks quite smart. :D It's got 17" alloys with brand new tyres fitted and has had from driver's window back blacked out. It even beeps like a truck when you reverse :D:confused:

I had the car for just over 24 hours test drive (amazed they let me to be honest) and it ran spot on.

I've got a tow bar mounted bike rack so I might look into getting a towbar fitted. Anyone know roughly what I'd be looking at to get that done?

the dealer I got it from is a massive importer/exporter of Jap/Yank veichles and was saying that parts are no worries. The only thing different on this car (compared to UK model) is the grill/front bumper.

I'm not 100% on the mileage but looking at the engine bay, it looks like it's done about 3 miles in it's whole life. In fact the whole car it pretty spotless

Turns out the DVLA messed up and assigned it a 55 plate when in fact it's a 56. it's going to be sorted too. Would it matter if it wasn't changed, from a road legal point of view?

Oh, and it's got 4 cup holders!

I'll post back up in a week when I realise it's the most hateful car ever!

now, time to look into selling the Forester Turbo.....:(:(:(

I dont think I will ever understand why people who have clearly already made up their mind what they are doing think its prudent to waste everyones time asking for 'advice' they are obviously not in the slightest bit interested.

Quite why anyone would buy a grey import version of a car like that completely escapes me.

Don't forget to tell your insurers.

So the dealer lied to you?

The engine is different - we didnt get a 1.5 in this country, they were all 1.6 and above.

It would have been, but the OP had already made their mind up before making the thread.
