Which is more GPU taxing?

yea man 3d gaming. The reason being is im tempted in both 1080p 120Hz monitors and 27" 2560X1440 IPS monitors and was wondering which was most taxing for the GPU.

Thanks

well higher resolutions for gaming need more ram, so for decent settings on most games at 2560x you'd need at least 1.5Gb Vram so i'd guess more for running 3D say 2Gb? maybe 3Gb? not really sure lol

3D can, and I'm recalling an article I read, have about a 40% impact on performance.

To be honest, it doesn't seem that bad. I can play Metro 2033 on normal graphics settings in 3D on a 768MB GTX 460. It still looks brilliant.

I'd say 3D will change your gaming experience more than the IPS monitor. I don't use mine that much, but it's absolutely brilliant for racing games and the few 3D films I've watched.

I may be wide of the mark but based on my limited understanding of 3D you pretty much get up to 50% less performance by definition because it will effectively be running at 60hz max rather than 120.

Do you mean 3D as in the gash stuff they are pushing for TVs as well, or 3D as in 3D objects being displayed in a game for instance?

nah not 3d for tv just gaming as in nvidia 3d vision, AMD HD3D. Im tempted by the S27A950 coming out soon or the DELL IPS U2711. Graphic cards im thinking of to accommodate either of these is 6990, 580 (possible SLI later) or maybe 6950-70 Xfire

Mainly RPG gamer but getting BF3

It's the same thing (unless we are talking about the stuff that was big in the 80s). Have you watched any TV/Cinema in 3D?

If not, go into some big high street electrical store and watch something (ask for a demo if nothing is obvious). Only then would I even think about getting it for gaming.

I'm more and more thinking the dell u2711 @ 2560x1440 what card u recommend for this res out of the ones I mentioned above?

I assumed that would be the case as well because it's rendering two images at the same time at 60Hz each, but according to the article I read it's closer to 40%

I wish I could remember where I saw it

Yeah looking at benchmarks it doesn't seem to be the case. Don't really understand why, maybe some kind of cpu limitation with 3D disabled.
