if I use the HDMI connector on my Sapphire card to my tv... will it carry sound as well?

I realise the DVI to HDMI cables wont......

hmmmm finally got this up and running.

Have it setup so that my monitor clones onto the TV - (I have a logitech mini Di Novo to control XBMC)

when going to change over my sound settings in hardware playback - AMD HDMI output is shown but states not plugged in.

Any ideas how to enable the sound ?
Otherwise sound comes from my Logitech speakers at the other side of the rooom....

cant its greyed out saying not plugged in......

am using an Asus Xonar card - onboard sound is disabled.

You need to enable ATI HD Audio, install the ATI HD audio drivers if you haven't already and set that as your default audio device.

That's the only way to get audio carried through the HDMI lead - it comes out of your graphics card not your Asus Xonar or the motherboard's onboard audio.

thanks surveyor.

arent they already included in the 11.3 drivers ?
It shows up in device manager...... just wont let me enable the sound output.
am running windows 7 64 bit as well if that helps.

have tried just using the HDTV as screen instead of Monitor and TV - audio is still greyed out.

nope.

only disable.

set as default is greyed out as is test - can goto properties.. reinstall driver ... have uninstalled restarted windows ... etc etc ... same issue.

thanks for your help.

hmmm just noticed it doesnt say ATI HDMI now... either way it is still greyed out.

maybe uninstall ATI driver suite and reinstall ?

Try installing the latest drivers from AMD.

I'm sure that when I do that it automatically enables the ATI HD audio.

Download and run the full Catalyst Suite and when it gives you the option to install or uninstall then uninstall everything. Restart and then do a custom install and you can ensure the audio drivers are selected.

Select your drivers from here:

tv is on - picture is displayed on TV no problem.

uninstalled 11.4 suite - reinstalled ..... now states ATI HDMI high def audio device in picture above..... still greyed out !

I have this problem with my 4870 and my TV. Easy fix is to reboot your pc with the tv turned on.

It seems to have difficulty recognizing it is plugged in at times other than post.
