Bit a of a weird one but I'm looking to do what I did last year. I had a HTC HD2 on £25 contract and sold the phone the same week I got it, pretty much paying for most of my contract while I keep on using my JB Iphone 3GS.

Not really kept up to date with the android phones so was wondering which is the most desirable at the moment and which would fetch the most money?

The Samsung Galaxy S2 I can get for £25 a month + £20 for handset.

Over 24 months that's £620. Sell it on for approx £450. That leaves £170 which means over the 24 months my contract will be £7 a month.

Cheapest Sim only with less minutes than the above contract will get me is £10p/m with giffgaff.

Hence why the more expensive the phone I can get and sell on the better. Bit of a strange one but it worked well for me last time I did this.

The Galaxy S II is indeed the most highly regarded phone at the moment.

can get the sgs2 on an 18 month contract for £30 a month, £20 for phone, £560 over the term, £110 cost.

In other thoughts though, the SGS2 is an absolutely massive upgrade from a 3GS, and you'll get a couple of hundred for that.......

That sounds good, who is that with mate?

I wouldn't be against giving it a go, I had a go of my sisters Wildfire and it just felt so clumsy. I'll have a read up on the Galaxy S2.

You can get decent sim only tariffs for around a tenner a month without signing up to 24 months, might be worth doing that.

The Galaxy S II is easily worth using over an iPhone 3GS unless there are iPhone specific things you can't live without. Sell the 3GS, they still sell very well!

your plan fails in that you wont be able to sell it for £450

Of course he can and will if someone wants it at that price...why do you think it would be a failure exactly??

Ive sold plenty of phones for a lot more than they were worth...if theres idiots out there willing to part with their money then more fool them;)

I'm tempted to give the SGSII a chance actually. Just fancy a change really, theres nothing that it doesn't do that I need it to do. I'm just getting a little bored with it. I do like the fact that I can use the SGSII as a storage device.

Think I will order it, give it a week or so to see how it goes. If I like it, great will sell my Iphone for £150 to mazuma and I'll have a SGSII on a contract that works out at £18 a month for 18 months. Or If I hate it, keep my Iphone, sell the SGSII and end up with a contract for £6-£7 on my iPhone.

The SGSII is a fantastic phone, but I don't think you'll get £450 for it - one went BIN on ebay for £350 today, and I bought mine for £320 on gumtree.

That'll teach me to skim over eBay. I'll dothe figures at £350 and see if it's still worthwhile. Anyone made the switch from IPhone to android and missed anything?

You may still get £450 for it, but I reckon most people would just spend a couple of hours pressing F5 on newly listed to save themselves £100 - that's what I'd do anyway.
As for iPhone/Android, I use an iPhone 4 and Dell Streak regularly and I found the iPhone to be a bit quicker and more stable, but missed the customisability and just generally found android easier to use. My SGSII is faster than the iPhone 4 anyway, so if you were going from an iPhone to an SGSII, I really don't think you'd miss anything.

in sure i seen it on an etailer for £400 or £450 ? with hassle free no asking for receipts you dont have warranty

with phone forums well people know what its worth

with ebay you are going to get stung massively with fees

Well like I said in my opening post I ordered a HTC HD2 (windows mobile) when it first came out and it was just horrible. Yes the screen was a lot better than the Iphone but everything was just so much hard work. None of the apps like Facebook were complete, every time I wanted to do something it was far too long winded compared to the Iphone and that was when I just sold it and bought a second hand Iphone 3GS for the same amount of money.

That REALLY put me off anything other than Iphones. However, I absolutely refuse to pay infalted 24 month contract rate to get an Iphone. Even just seeing the carphone warehouse brochure that I picked up at the weekend with a seperate Iphone tariffs page make me angry :D My 3GS is looking totally battered now so I do need a new phone but the Iphone 4 offers nothing worth upgrading my current 3gs for.

One thing I did hate on the HTC was how unresponsive it was and how I was having to try new firmware from modding forums etc etc. I just want my phone to work. I think thats where the Iphone does it for me with its usability. Everything just..Works.

What apps do you use regularly?

Things that I regularly do on my Iphone at the moment are...

Email (Gmail)
Facebook
Shareprice
BBC News
Sky Sports News
Around Me
Maps
Shazam
Hotukdeals (ihotdeals)
Twitter
Tom Tom
Text a hell of a lot so I need a decent keypad. The Iphone is the best I've ever used and this would be a big selling point.

Only gripe I have with the Iphone is that I have to go and find everything that I want. I'd like to have things like the latest news on my homepage, a few share prices, read a text message while TomTom is running.

I don't listen to music and haven't used mine as an Ipod once so that doesn't bother me.

The battery on my Iphone is annoying too, I do use my phone a lot, doing all of the above most days (apart from Tom Tom) and most of the time my phones is dead by 10-11pm.

I've had a look on my dad HTC Desire which I don't think he has updated in quite a while and it was a little confusing having just a few minutes messing around.

EDIT : I'm far from a Fan boy of apple. I think the Iphones are excellent, everything is so user friendly. I want an app and its downloaded and ready to used in an instant. The facebook app is better than using a computer. Everything just seems so polished to me. If me and my parents are out somewhere and we need to find something on the internet or search for something, it takes me half the time to do on my Iphone compared to my dad htc. I don't know how much that is down to the user though. Guess I'm just a little confused as to what I should do. I fancy a change purely because I'm not paying £35 for 24 months for an Iphone compared to getting a phone like the SGSII for 2/3 of the price.

One thing I must add, my dad has a Samsung Galaxy tab and that has slowed down something rotten, the keyboard is far too unresponsive, takes ages for apps to kick in. If I click on the search bar, i've typed half of the word in befor it even registers on the screen. Thats one thing thats worrying me about making the switch to a Samsung phone which must be fairly similar?

plenty went for £450+ today.
And some went for £350 as well.

Well, I used to have a HD2 and I can safely say the SGSII is a hell of a lot better, and it's definitely faster than the iPhone 4. Apps-wise, I agree that some apps such as facebook are a bit better on iPhone, but there's more free apps on android, and it's easier to "obtain" the paid ones should you not wish to fork out for them.

I went from an iPhone 4 to a Nexus S and the only thing I miss is iOS's selection of 3D games. Seems ridiculous that the Nexus S is more powerful than the iPhone, but there are just about no games available that compare to Infinity Blade, FIFA 11 etc. on iOS :(
