Live on your own? Get scared?

I hate sleep paralysis.

Not because I think it's deamons or whatever, but just the fact you can be so mentally awake and not be able to move an inch. Such a helpless and vurnerable feeling...

I think you should be more afraid when you live with someone else rather than alone. With another person in the house the threat is already present, and you simply never know....:p

And remember the dark cannot hurt you, it is just the things that reside in it that are murderous!

plus your statistically more likely to be robbed/murdered/raped by someone that you know than by a stranger

anyone burgling you is going to be as scared as you are bumping into someone ! youd probably end up exchanging screams and running away from each other

watchout for monsters though...

I've had sleep paralysis 3 times. When your lying face down in the bed it was ******* scary because I thought I was being raped. Had it another time but I was physically moved. My legs were slid off the bed. The other time I saw a shadowy figure. It is the most terrifying experience that any human can experience bar none. You can't move and can't shout mummy.

You're weird if you don't tbh.

Most houses are easy to break into, it's not beyond possibility. There could be someone looking though your windows too :O

I never get it like that, I'm always mid-dream then become part-conscious and can see, although I could still hear the dream, ended up flicking between the dream and IRL vision. Could barely move or call anyone. Not nice.

whats to be scared of though ? so someone does break in and you dont hear them , they come into your room and you see each other... do you think they are going to stick around ? and how would not been alone change anything

only reason for worry would be if you've been upsetting people and someone is 'after yer'

There might be slight differences between old hag syndrome and sleep paralysis if I can recall. I cried when I first had these. It's the kind of run crying to your mum fear. If you ever have one here a tip. Look at the digits on a digital clock, they should be scrambled and you should wake up fully.

Hahaha I can't say I've ever felt penetration but each to their own :p :D

I will probably attract ridicule etc but a few years ago I was in London for work, weekend thing, put up in a very exciting travel lodge no expense spared. Girlfriend was at home in the flat herself.

Anyway, after doing my thing during the day, going out for a meal and drinks after I was still quite drunk when she woke me by calling during the night really upset, talking about getting "punched in the face" through her pillow that had woke her up and had left a bit of a red mark, tingling etc. Obviously I would normally treat it with the obvious scepticism like most people if it wasn't for how upset she had gotten, done my best to calm her down and confort her by now at this point I'm quite convinced something's happened if not a very realistic dream etc.

A few weeks later back home, can't quite remember how long exactly, I went to bed one night few hours after she'd went through and settled down. During the night at some point the same happened to me, I can only say I got punched in the face through the bed frame.

I sleep with one pillow lying sideways, flat along the mattress with my hand under my head and pillow and my head was forced up quickly as if I was looking into the room and fell back down again. I really felt it, felt warm. I am a light sleeper so most noises or twitches etc have me thinking quickly even then it was very fast. Sat thinking for a few seconds, sat up and woke her etc

What ever it could be it I don't know, but it was told under no uncertain terms to get the **** away from us and stay out of the house or i'd kill it if I ever got the chance to. Alpha man, alpha :p The kettle started playing up after that, which is another story all together but it stopped and that was that.

Who know's eh.

Ah I really shouldn't have read this thread, alone in the house and need to go to bed lol.

I experienced this as a young child (probably ~7-9yrs old). Felt something through the slits in my headboard, grab my hair and pull my head. Quite possibly the scariest thing imaginable!

Can't say it happened again, and I didn't tell anyone I don't think either.

Then again i'd have bizarre dreams too, where i'd actually be afraid of the weirdest unscary thing - like a side profile of an underground network of pipes in the ground, and i'd be petrified of it.

Sleep Paralysis can cause heart attacks in even the fittest person!

I think it's only natural to be afraid of the dark, afterall it is attributed to everything that is evil in media:

- Aliens
- Criminals
- Poltergeists
- Murderers
- Daemons
- Monsters
- Animals

In the house with others, I can sleep perfectly. When I find myself alone in the house for a week or so, I sleep very lightly - the slightest noise wakes me up, adrenaline pumping - whether to fight off a burglar or get ready to get mauled by something :p

Strange thing was my arm was in the way with my head resting on it, ie the direction of the bed 'it' came from meant it came through my arm, and I didn't feel a thing there.

Very odd... and my arm didn't move a thing either. I was 23-24 year old then so didn't have a 'childs imagination' to confuse the situation either if you know what I mean.

I enjoy all sorts of dreams, good ones bad one's scary ones etc, that wasn't a dream as I woke up part way on the up, and was definately thinking wtf on the way back down :D
