I know it's a pretty bland car but I'm not interested in having all the bells and whistles that I could have on say a Mondeo.

I can never understand this mentality. If you can have a better car for the SAME MONEY then why would you not want one?

I get that you aren't interested in 'bells and whistles', and if that meant that you were saving money then fair enough, but when you can spend the same money and end up with a better car, thus having these 'bells and whistles' for free, then why would you not want them?

It's purchase justification, defensiveness if you will. It's more common after purchase though, when someone mentions something better you could have had and you say you didn't want it anyway - I will admit though, such notions before purchase are just bizarre.
