If you don't have an iPhone...

There terms of service but its more loopholing for itunes and apps store but app store has its own which is updates lots but there was nothing about location tracking, storing and selling of the infomation

After the update there servers have been fast as it's been lead to belive that over half there customers have it switched off now

Your talking bs again, you did agree to it.

It'tonot transmitted back to apple, it's not shared and it's not sold.
It is used by apps to lock your position, before gps gets a sataliete lock. The problem was encryption, if you have it turned if your are a fool.

Sounds boring, I thought one of men's common interests was tinkering obviously not. I guess we are seeing an end to that, everything has to be plastic wrapped so even the user's two year old can use it.

Products that work off the shelf are boring now

Tinkering is about playing with engines and cool stuff like that, not because the wifi on 'frisco's is broken out of the box or stevie wonder was the consultant on the UI!

Well, products that can't be modified are boring. There is not a better feeling than modifying a device to allow it to perform a whole new function, buying a product does not even compare to it.

In this day and age, tech should be modifiable. Not locked down, one example of me adding functionality to a product is by installing custom firmware on a foxsat.

Part of the problem, i can't be bothered faffing around with software hacks to make a phone useable and then doing it over and over as the new 'best thing evah' comes out.

I did root the 'frisco and having spent a day messing around with it and getting different bits in to fix errors and make it better than stock i just thought what is the point?

In the same way i dont overclock anymore, use OSX over windows - i am in it for the easy life these days!

It just comes down to what pretty much any purchasing decision comes down to; preference.

I love tinkering, but on the flipside i totally understand someone wanting something that is good to go. It's because of this that i use Android, Windows, etc etc.

I'm just glad Google are providing a product that is arguably a worthy competitor to iOS. As a result it means that both companies will need to stay on the ball to keep market share. Competition is always a good thing for the consumer :)

If you like modifying that much, you can easily modify an iPhone.

The iPhone is the "Fisher Price" of smartphones

People saying things like this just make themselves look like clueless idiots.

The same goes for people that 'assume' all iPhone/iPad owners are pretentious idiots, I mean, what on earth? Are you really that dumb? Get a grip.

This is the irony that all the haters don't see. Really need to get over themselves.

While i would never, ever argue that all Apple product owners are pretentious etc, etc. You have to admit that the brand does attract a small number that... love the product a little too much? The hi-fiving and patting on the back when people queue up for hours to buy a new product on release just seems a little creepy to me.

Or is it that the Windows and Android lovers are just hiding away in their bedrooms with the curtains pulled and thus go unnoticed?

An interesting paradox.

Well the reason for people assuming as such is because of the number of stuck up iBrand users there actually are out there (some of which are on here as well). Like Terrorists giving Islam a bad name, these people give normal iBrand users a bad name too so among the masses this whole new hatemachine emerges for them.

time for this:

So those ignorant people are in the same league as people who hate on a brand? Fair comparison, basically the BNP of tech "lovers".

The Windows lovers are out in the open these days but the Android lovers sit in their bedrooms flashing once a day. ;)

That is just a case of the simple fact that anything popular will attract morons.

The higher population a country has, the more criminals it will have, etc.

There's nothing new to it.

There are plenty of people who will defend Android and Blackberry to the extent Apple fanboys would defend an iPhone, its just a bit less common.

On the topic of phones, if I were to buy a phone for 50 quid or less (pay as you go) any suggestions as to what would be best? - any phone/not limited to smart phones

Second hand San Francisco is what i'd likely aim for.

Though (/braces himself) you'll need to put research into flashing it onto 'good' firmware. Tis really easy, there's a guide posted in the mobiles section.

I wouldn't have a clue if you could obtain an iOS smartphone for that price point if i'm honest.

.

I could, I don't own an Iphone or Droid but I don't approve of apple locking it down from day one.

It's the whole attitude that some companies have that annoys me, someone should not have to break into it so that they can modify it.
