can 1 nvidia gtx 580 support 120hz when used we 120hz monitors reason i ask is in my manual for my gainwood it states supports up to 85 hz at resolution 1920 x 1080
 
Yes, it can support it, but it may struggle to reach 120Hz on newer and future games at that resolution!
 
Yes it should support 120hz, and no it WON'T struggle, ever, hz and fps are completely independant of each other, a 120hz screen, in 120hz mode(i'm guessing but assuming they can run at 60hz aswell, maybe not) will ALWAYS run at 120hz, if your game is providing 240fps, it will only ever show 120 different images, if your game is running slowly at 2fps, the screen will keep showing the same image over and over again, 120 times every second.
