Hello all. Just wondering what peoples thoughts/experiences are with these cars. Im looking to get one or something similar for a commute from Southampton to Portsmouth monday to friday.

They seem like cracking cars, pokey yet great mpg. Remaping them seems to make them go like rockets too!

good cars, I had a 07 VRS and was good, check the back carpets tho for anykind of damp as some early models suffered from leaks from the door seals on the back.

I got 666 miles out of a tank when going the ring last year, they are good motors on fuel and the tax is quite cheap.

check out briskoda.net forums for all the answers you need.

Most over-rated car ever. Not that great inside, horrible noisy diesel engine, not even that quick, treated by owners as if its a 911 turbo or something.

I hate these cars. Can you tell?

I think Fox is right in that they are over rated, doesn't necessarily make them a bad car though.

What it does do is keep the prices unreasonably high for what is essentially a small diesel hatchback.

I'm actually just selling mine.

Great little cars but limited boot space if you have kids.

Mine a standard one but pulls well for a diesel. A good compromise between economy and performance. Certainly not a 911 but very fun to drive!

I will certainly miss mine, now running a Volvo estate :(

I drove one out of curiosity, it was a 4-5 year old example with low mileage and was quite surprised at how slow it didn't feel, I guess that is those Diesel t0rks - I imagine you can improve on this feeling with a remap, too. It seemed to handle better than I expected, but it hardly blew me away.

They aren't quite your average Diesel hatchback, there do have a sporty dynamic about them, although they don't particularly appeal aesthetically for me.

I thought the handling was a bit of a poor point on them due to the combination of short wheelbase and being very nose heavy?

Never driven one, just going by the comments on Briskoda.

Yet loved to death by anyone who ever owned one.
So there must be something about them.

It's a combination of never having driven anything better and getting 55mpg therefore trying to convince themselves it's no compromise ;)

Same was true of the 306 DTurbo in the early 2000's. It was basically better than a GTi6!

Not at all, it's basically an Elise. Which does 60mpg. And cruises like a Pheaton.

I didn't love mine, think I only owned it about 4 months.

It evaluates well as a 'car', it's just not much more than that. People shouldn't compare them with proper hot-hatches as they perform quite poorly in the key areas (handling, steering, braking, involvement, looks!)

Torquey and frugal though.

I dont like them to look at and the interior is a little cheap but then its a cheap car so for how much they cost its not that bad.

If you had a bigger budget I would say look at a Golf, A3 or BMW 1 but with a limited budget I think they are fine.

What about a Seat? I have set in one and they seem to be a little nicer inside.

But with a re-map they are...aren't they

Good for 180BHP plus a load more twist after a remap, although they eat clutches and flywheels. They are not able to cope with the power increase.

Still a fun drive standard although white seats can be a pain to keep clean with kids.

Passed a standard one easily on track in my Rallye which is standard.

A modified one was a similar pace to my car. This was with coilovers, arb, hybrid turbo, remap etc.

Over-rated warm hatch, I think they are good for what they are, but they are not a subsitute for a proper hot hatch.

Someone with a 'ultimate screw mod of win' 306 DTurbo once spent ages explaining to me how his car was faster than my GTi6 due to the torks.

Trying to explain how gear ratios work... doesn't work.

I have discovered bicarb of soda + water + cloth for cleaning the white parts of my octy vrs seats. It's epic and works much better than any off the shelf products I've tried.

In gear at any given random revs the more torquey car will seem to put on more speed, quicker though wont it? My mates old 306 TDi felt, nippy, and my other friends leon 2.0 150 felt fast going above 70 and more.
