No idea where luck went today, it's not on my side.

A brand new Razar mouse ruined! I opened it up, it asked me to pull the plastic tab to activate the mouse. The tab snapped as I was doing so. I got some pliers to pull on the little but of plastic sticking out but it was stuck in to tight. The plastic ripped and is still wedged in there.

In the process I managed to scratch the bottom of the mouse with the pliers. So I took the 1 screw that's apparently holding it all together and tried to take the mouse apart.

... Impossible. You take the screw out and there is still no way to open in.

I'm now left with a ruined mouse that's impossible to refund.

Some more money down the drain.

Edit: Forgot to add, the USB plug that connects to the mouse is not even lined up correctly. After getting it in, it's now stuck, and can't be removed. If I pull any harder I will tear the wire out (literally).

Not a good day.

So that's:

1) A soundcard that won't fit
2) Losing your thermal paste
3) RAM which won't work
4) A broken mouse

Have I missed anything?

I've replied to your thread about the RAM.

The mouse was clearly unfit for use, if it was the way you described it. So a refund shouldn't be out of the equation.

If he'd stopped at the part where the plastic tab broke off I'd agree with you but no retailer is going to give a refund after you've taken pliers to it.

Still, he can always try.

He did spend over £5,000 at OcUK.

It's in a bad way. No refund lol. They could have have made the mouse easier to take apart though. It's in the bin now. I'll get a new one tomorrow.

bit harsh to say "stay well clear" of Razer when you destroyed it, broken tab is annoying but you could've swapped that no hassle if you hadn't decided to be a cack handed ape :p

still, consider keeping the parts and maybe you can make a "Frankenmouse" - one mouse modded with the internals of another mouse (to change sensor types.)

or maybe someone might be interested in taking the bits off you to try their own mod.

Razer Mamba - the black plastic sheet inside the battery compartment shouldn't actually be removed, it's there to give you some leverage when the battery is in so you can easily get it removed again.

I have to say it's not necessarily clear enough when you unbox the mouse; and many electronics do require you to remove the tab/sheet completely in order to allow the battery connectors to make contact with their battery so that it's not drained in transit or whilst sitting on a store/warehouse shelf.

I'm guessing that's what you did because I almost blindly did the same thing myself and then thought.. wait a minute.. perhaps I should check first.

You do mean this bit, right? It doesn't mean pull to remove, but pull to lift out the battery once it is in there.

Excuse the 'fur' around the non-slip pads... :o

Also, to remove the cable you have to slide the switch to the right of the cable socket (in my pic) and keep it held open whilst you remove the cable again, it's a deliberate locking mechanism.

I don't mean to be rude but even with something simple and unassuming like a mouse, a little RTFM goes a long way. On the plus side, whilst you may have to improvise a little in order to get the battery out, I don't see that anything you've done so far should actually stop the mouse from being fully functional at this point. Just be careful and if in doubt, ask first.

battery compartment cover comes off with out the use of tools, and as said above the tab is just to help remove the battery, also the usb plug is locked in, there is a slide on the underneath that you have to hold over to one side and then pull the usb out all at the same time.

I got a wired one today, if anyone in the UK wants me to post the wireless one for free let me know. Its probably still in full working order, slight damage on the underside.
