EA to annualise the Battlefield series?

Battlefield every 2 years...hmmmm 3 would be better but waiting longer doesn't always make it better, just take a look at what happened to RTCW.

Yearly doesn't sound like enough to me, it's not shafting the gamer enough.
I want twice yearly, with support for the "old" game to vanish immediately once the successor is out.
I'd also find it refreshing if most (if not all) of the singe player was a pay per level sort of idea.
All different guns should be paid for DLC.
Health should have to be purchased through a Paypal link up.
Some control features should only be able to be unlocked if you pre-order the game.

*Take note EA*

wow didnt see this coming..............

It's not coming, it's speculation, a guess from an Analyst.

I could make the same guess, or I could guess that Valve are going to go bust in a month, or that Microsoft are going to release a new OS every year.

Pure, unadulterated speculation.

Is anyone really surprised? Now they have a strong engine nailed down their turn around will be a lot faster.

yes but this rumour has been doing the rounds. I think its going to happen, EA wanna make more money and have a pop at the fps crown so why wouldnt they? doesnt matter what we want

I would be alright with them doing a massive main BF every couple of years, with the annual iteration based off the latest of the main game. So you'd see BF3 come out, then you have games based off BF3 coming out each year until BF4 later down the line. As long as they put in the best effort they can on the main Battlefields, all the games will be good.

It's in some ways already happening - we've had a couple of games spinning off Battlefield 2 (2142, Freeplay), then a couple of games spinning off Bad Company (1943, Bad Company 2, Vietnam) and now we're seeing Battlefield 3 come out, and undoubtedly there will be more games based off the BF3 engine. It's not a bad thing at all, seeing how it's been consistently high quality for the series so far.

Its getting like this across the board in the games industry, any major title that sells well will probably end up pumping out sequels, kinda like the episode game/DLC route. It makes them much money, it really doesn't seem any different for all the major game makers these days.

Meh can't complain, I've got a trend of avoiding stuff like BC2s vietnam though, just can't see getting more enjoyment of what is essentially the same game with different guns/era; however, 2142(from bf2) was enough for me becuase it was futuristic.

So I kind of made my own point moot, I just want it to be worth it, not obvious milking.

The original Bad Company used a completely different engine to 1943/bfbc2/vietnam, didn't it? Aside from that, I pretty much agree.

This would be the worst thing imaginable from a gamers perspective. I really hope the next COD game falls flat on its face. If it is indeed set in space hopefully it will be sucked into a black hole, along with Activision.

Re-skinned rubbish year after year. No innovation combined overpriced DLC junk. A couple of years is fine for BF but not every November.
