Freezer Pro Rev 2 Not Up To The Job

I completed my build just over a week ago and have just reseated everything, as I was getting unacceptable temps, but the problem is still there. The system temp is always under 30.

I've got the 2500k running at 4.4g on my MSI P67A-GD65, but it's idle at 35-38 and under Prime 95 it goes up to the mid to late 70's after three minutes. I know this should come down after a couple of weeks, but not by enough I'd say.

Getting the mobo onto my Elite 430 (fans at the front, side, back and top) was a bit of a pain, as the screws didn't fit the spacers properly, so I'd ideally like another cooler that will fit the Freezer Pro Rev 2 bracket. Would the Freezer Xtreme Rev.2 fit the same bracket and improve performance, or will I have to bite the bullet and get another make?

hi
i think your expecting a lot with this little /cheap cooler . yes it is great for the money but i think you are going to have to spend a bit more ( like me ) for a better/bigger cooler

cheers

It keeps mine at 45C max load, but my Processor dosnt generate half as much heat as a 2500k :D Really for something like a 2500k you want something better.

buy a better cooler, the freezer 7 is good enough for a mild overclock but it starts suffering when volts go up too much.

The freezer is fine but you will have to accept higher temps if overclocking by much. The xtreme version looks like it'd do push pull fans and an extra heatpipe

Heat is fine upto 100c as far as I know where as conroe was rated to 85. I regularly used a freezer with conroe in the 80s for five years, so many people seem unable to accept it could be ok at higher temps though

I did expect the FP2 to drop the temps a bit lower than the late 70's though and would have settled for the mid 60's, with early 30's idle.

Anyone confirm if the Xtreme will fit the FP2 bracket and if it will be much better?

If you want a comparison to a stock cooler. 1.3 on the vcore gets 99c so late 70's is 20 better then that.

Im sure better is well possible but its a depreciating scale, if a cheapy solution doesnt work then for quad core I'd go right to a H50 type deal otherwise I'd not bother because I dont think high temps is doing any harm imo

Maybe I'm just being over protective, I'll give it a week or so, for the AS5 to see if the temps drop, then I might go for another Hsf. Ta.:)

I had a Pro Rev2 on My Amd Hex Core 1090T and my idle was about 39c with no Over clock and after about 10min of Prime 95 it would be about 75c. I went and bought a Freezer Extreme and now my idle is about 32c and Full load about 57C running prime 95 for 8hours and it is over clocked from 3.2ghz to 3.8ghz. I would personally still recommend something better than a freezer extreme for you but i still say it should do the trick. Just a bit of extra info to help you make a decision.

i have the exact same setup (although i just replaced the arctic cooler like 2 days ago), and my temps were ~30 at idle (at 1.6ghz) and 70 under prime (at 4.5ghz). not too bad for a cheapo cooler

i have the freezer 13 9.5cm fan one on my 2500k msi p67A-g45 and my cpu is running at 4.4ghz my temps in prime are 63oc max or around 30-35 on idle but my fan is spinning at 25% on no load then cranks upto 100%on full load

I tried using the Titan Fenrir, but the bracket was too big, interfering with the SFC jobbies, the other side from the memory slots. At least I know the case can fit a big hsf, the manual says anything up to 163mm.

I've reseated the Freezer Pro 2 and I had far too much AS5 on before, as the temps are now down to 74deg after 25 minutes of prime95, with the system at 4.4g.

Should I just settle with what I have, or would something like the Gelid or Corsair A50 make much of a difference, because I don't really want a whopping Silver Arrow or the like and preferably something that doesn't use the ridiculous clips that the Fenrir uses and it easy enough to install without having to take out the mobo?
