Guitar advice

I currently have an epiphone SG, i love it to bits but might not be quite what you're after, one of my mates has several ibanez and they all feel great to play, probably get one myself as my next instrument.
Also +1 for the mexican fender, although you should probably go and have a play in a shop and see for yourself.
Out of curiosity how long have you been playing/had first instrument?[/QUOTE

Yup i have an Epiphone SG, as well as an Epihone T Bird bass, great guitars for the price.

Thanks for the input so far :)

I do realise the amp will be very important but want to get the guitar right at this point.
I had a play around at a local music store, the selection wasn't great but I did get my hands on a JS100; and thought it was pretty awesome. Problem is its a little on the expensive side and I really like the look of the ibanez s570 as an alternative. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/ibanez-s570dxqm-tgb--71422 Unfortunately I can't find anywhere local that stocks either the 570 or 470. :( I am considering just ordering it and hoping for the best. I guess it would cost me 20 - 30 quid to return if it wasn't what I hoped for.

Just get it from the GAK and send it back under DSR if you don't love it. At least, I assume the distance-selling regs apply in NI?

If you want similar but cheaper, I can heartily reccommend the **** range. You can get a similarly-specced HSH from them, with coil tap and a "Floyd Rose designed" trem.

(Edit - oh hell, the guitar range I had in mind is filtered because it has the same name as a competitor >< - let's just say that it starts and ends with an "A" and has RI in the middle :D)

Need to know what kinda things you play. Then what kinda shapes of guitar you find attractive and comfortable ;)

Usually you can find the near perfect guitar if you know all the elements you need, especially for the amount you'd spend, you can do alright.

Most of the expensive guitars you pay for the name. I for example have an ESP Horizon which was 1,500 but the high end of LTD guitars (ESPs budget range, budget is wrong word :\) are almost of the same quality in many ways.

I'd avoid anything from Epiphone at the moment. The Made in China guitars are horrible, horrible quality.

EDIT: Although the Made in China Ibanez ones, such as the JS series, are actually quite good. I played a JS not that long ago and the difference in quality was night and day. They're good wee guitars.

Just go second hand. You can get some really good deals on quality guitars.

A few years ago I managed to score an Ibanez RGA121 prestige for £250 on Gumtree. Still have it, and it's one of the best guitars I've played in its (retail) price range.

Just keep scouring Ebay, Gumtree, Cash converters and the like. You may find a gem.
