I know jack **** about keyboards, but I do know peeps on this forum keep going on about "mechanical keyboard this" "mechanical keyboard that" so there must be something in the stories, so I would get the mechanical one.

I'm guessing that your MS k/b was killed due to lots of typing? then the mechanical one will be better because they last considerably longer IIRC. Like Stulid, I know very little about keyboards

The G19 is a great keyboard, I have one and I would think it's great but it is handy having the screen, can do quite a bit with it and the right software, not sure why it's ugly, it looks great to me, nice keys and had mine nearly a year without problems, heavy gaming on it and everything is fine with it
here's an old screen of what I have running on the screen.

I went from the G15 (v1) to the Black Widow Ultimate because I do quite a bit of typing - before I got it I thought I may have made a mistake spending so much money on a keyboard - but now i'm using it I'm really happy I went for it.The mechanical keys just make typing so much easier (and quicker I find) and it feels solid (like a steel bar covered in shiny plastic) so it should last quite some time, also mechanical switches are also much more long-lasting than the membrane type used in standard Logitech keyboards (including the G19 I believe).

That said, in terms of reliability a logitech keyboard may break but they are pretty amazing with their warranty - even if it is outside the warranty term they often give you some nice money-off vouchers to use in their online store if your item breaks.

However, I would still suggest a mechanical board if you are doing a lot of typing and the BW Ultimate uses very nice typing-friendly cherry MX Blue switches, excellent one LED per key backlighting, it looks cool and doesn't take up half your desk.

Just thought I would add that I have never dealt with Logitech for any issues as I have had none with there products, Razer on the other hand, well they are not very helpful at all, Had a 8 month old razer mamba(bear in mind 8 months from the release of the product), wheel broke on it, I had no receipt but thought I would contact them, they said they couldn't help me at all, not happy, £100 mouse,8 months from release and they wouldn't do anything.

dont they have a 2 year warrenty ?

when my mouse broke, after i had it for over a year, they replaced it without much fuss.

althou one thing about razer, they dont really deal much with RMA's if you dont by from the razer store, they prefer u go via the place you bought it from instead.

as for the keyboard, i went from the G15 to the BW ultimate, and its just so much better to type on

i do miss the LCD as i used that quite a bit, but ill take the better typing over the LCD any day

maybe ill just have to create my own LCD :P

Still works perfect...just some the letters are wearing out from 4 years of use..and some the top of the keys had swapped off went trying to clean it and i had to super glue them back on...

My "N" key :D

I will always say mechanical keyboard (I'm a keyboard collector) but, after reading up more and discussing with others who share a similar interest, the black widow isn't that great. Particularly for gaming, which is the market it's aimed at. Since the keyboard doesn't have NKRO, instead using a "gaming optimised" controller for particular key clusters.

So they sell it at "mech spec" prices, but it doesn't even have a functionality that would make it beneficial to the very market it's aimed at.

If you're going to buy a mechanical keyboard, don't buy into the "blowing smoke up your ass" of "gaming" snake oil (gaming marketed stuff is mostly snake oil anyway) and just get yourself a plain old Filco with 6KRO over USB and NKRO over PS/2

If you're just using the Black Widow for typing, a "gaming optimised" cluster (which is 2KRO with some tweaking to avoid dropping keystrokes) will be perfect.
