Hydrophobia - third person action for few quid

can you give any more info on this? I'm a major fan of FPS games but I've never heard of the game so unwilling to take a punt to see if its decent or not!

I have always hated underwater/water stages in all games since i first played mario and also sonic back in the day, dunno why this has stuck with me. Though this does look pretty good.

I am playing on x360 controller, it is more comfortable for me, but the game has full support for mouse and keyboard. The ingame labels switch accordingly.

The water physics in this game is probably the best in any game ever, gameplay is fun too so far.

How long has £8.99 been a "few quid"?

Depends on how much money you have I suppose, anything under 10 I consider few. It is very cheap considering how good it is and how good production values look like.

Unless they do a demo on PC I would say avoid as on the 360 it was a horrible game due to camera angles, dodgy controls, bugs, glitches & walking through treacle FPS (story is aimed at 8-10 years old its very juvenille). All the developer is doing is getting the public to buy & test for them! Some people are taken in by the presence & eagerness of the developer to answer questions/issue patches & mistake this as they are good at supporting their game (what else can they do if its horribly broken @ birth!!) .............

The fact this is the 3rd release in under 9 months of the exact same game with different names & vast patch fixes tells you all you need to know really :(

interesting, so zou have not played it but are sure it is to be avoided. uh huh.

yeah, that they listen to feedback and try to make their game as good as possible.

Well if that's true they should release it as freeware its just a glorified water FX demo which looks no better than Bioshock1 or Just Cause2 water FX anyway.

Audio is ****ed in the game, attempts to play through different devices at different points, hopefully a patch later today.

I remember when this was announced around four years ago. It looked great. Now, it seems like they've tried to redesign everything to give it more... mass market appeal, maybe. I'm sure the protagonist didn't used to look like that. Tiny point, though, not really worth worrying about I guess.

Yeah, having just had a look on the internets, she used to look like this:

Whereas she now looks like this:

I don't know, she doesn't look BAD now, just... I was digging the fairly believable look?

Also, I thought it would be neat to have a puzzle game based on water - seems they're mixing that with combat. That didn't work out too well with Mirror's Edge (I thought it worked just great, actually, but everyone I talk to has a problem with it). Wonder how it will work out here.

Just playing this now. Really liking it so far, just finished Act 1. Nothing special but the water looks amazing.

Act 1 complete without any combat yet. Hoping to get some action in Act II

You prove, again and again, what and idiot you are (not just here, but also with your GFWL apologist fo life! posts).

The difference is in physics. Neither JC2 nor BS have dynamic water.

Freeware? It costs meager 8 quid while having production qualities of 20 quid games or more.

I played some more and stand by my opinion that it is stellar game.

I am judging this PC version only, not any previous console peasant release.

The protagonist is actually quite good. She is "wrong time wrong place" reluctant type of hero with normal boobs, not some pamela anderson/lara croft wanabee.
