What is Hybrid Crossfire and Crossfire X???

Hybrid xfire is when you use different card together in xfire. For example, a 5850 and a 5870

xfire is when you use two of the same card together. so two 5850's in your case

EDIT: your mobo is fine with xfire and SLI which is good :D

CrossfireX is just a rebrand of Crossfire that came around when Crossfire was expanded to support 4 GPUs.

They are one and the same thing.

Just out of curiosity, has anybody ever had any experience using hybrid crossfire with their onboard graphics? I can't imagine the performance increase would be spectacular given the power of onboard chips.

It all depends on which discreet card you add.

A 790x chipset with an HD2400 for example, yeilds a 50% increase over the performance of the HD2400 on its own.

I don't know about this, if you look at the performance new low end cards like the 6670 and the 6570 which can be picked up for next to nowt the idea of crossfireing such cards with some sort of onboard solution is appealing especially if your building a HTPC with half an eye on gaming.

hybrid crossfire only works with really low end cards i think, there's only about 2 cards that it's compatible with on each motherboard and very low end, it's really not worth it

Yes it is. If you buying or building a HTPC and what to do some gaming on it hybrid crossfire is a godsend.
