Hi guys,

In January someone went in to the back of my girlfriends car while she was avoiding an oncoming police car (on the wrong side of the road) - obviously this got reported as a non-fault claim and accepted by Elephant, they then passed everything on to Albany Assistance who have been dreadful. Initially they said the part for her car would be in stock the end of February, the end of Feb came and they said the end of March, the end of March came and they said the end of April (you can see where this is going) and today she got a phone call to say it won't be in stock till the end of August. As it stands her car is drivable but in a poor state, the rear bumper is knocked well out of place and her boot doesn't shut flush (she had a loan car until temporary repairs were done to make her boot even shut).

Both Elephant and Albany are now saying she basically just has to wait it out and nothing can be done. I'm skeptical that the part will ever come in to stock (rear bumper for an MG ZR) and I'm wondering if there is anyone we can complain to or anything else we can do to move this forward?

Thanks chaps, all help is much appreciated :)

What about asking them to write it off if they can't repair it? That might give them the kick they need.

She has already asked them about writing it off, apparently the repair decision has been made so nothing else can be done :(

have you searched around to see if you can get it

£40.

edit: missed the fact that one was damaged.

Either way, there are loads for under £100.

I've already got prices from the local body shop and scrap yards, in total it will cost ~£150 to get a bumper and have it sprayed however that's not the point - she pays through the nose for insurance and they mess her about when she actually needs their help, she's suggested they send the garage to the scrap yard and spray it but they say they need to get one through an authorised channel, apparently.

For £150 I'd get it done myself and then find a way of getting the money back.

It's amusing how insurance companies use the whole Rover story as a getout - the MG ZR bumper is still available new for most models, off the shelf via XPart, the Rover parts dealers.

Every part I've needed for the ZS has been easy to buy new off the shelf, tell them to get their act together!

I'd have gone here the moment they started messing me about.
