best phone for under £270 ?

Hey there :)

I'm after a new phone currently still have a sony ericcson w810i so thought it was about time i upgraded. :D


Has to be sim free.

Because ill be using it for 6 months in UK and after that in Asia.


Havent found any which are 6 month contracts.

I thought if i get it sim free then just do giff gaff until i head off to Taiwan and sign up with a provider over there.

Currently like the look of

HTC desire (Z is the one that includes keyboard yeah?)

Samsung Galaxy S but can probably only afford a used version.

budget is £270.

Giffgaff is the way to go. Presuming that you have to buy now, a Galaxy S used is £200 or so, new at around £240.

A standard Desire would do pretty nicely if you really want to save some money. If you are willing to spend all the cash, a Desire HD can be had for £270, a Z for a tenner less. Off the 'bay of course :)

All of these phones will be more than fast enough (all pretty much the same in day-to-day usage). The two newer Desire models get you a second gen Snapdragon, which has a slightly faster processor and far faster graphics. However, no matter which you go for, in all scenarios, they will be fast enough; games on Android aren't quite that advanced.
 
You can get a brand new Galaxy S for that. I'd push the budget to £300 and try and get an Xperia arc though personally.

i can get a HTC desire HD for around £206 apparently new on ebay unlocked as well. Seems too good to be true!

same with the samsung galaxy s - unlocked, sealed - 1 day left and its at £102. Must be something im missing....

Ive not checked out the Xperia. Will try to do a hands on of em all tomorrow :D
 
Also heres a random question: Is there an app that translates what someones says into english . Ie mandarin > english. Like a universal translator heh :)

Yes and no. Google translate will do that..........but not in mandarin ;)
 
I have a defy, I think for the cost it is fantastic.

Its rugged, waterproof to a small degree, I can stomp on it by accident, drop it down the stairs or onto a concrete floor. It's fallen out of my pocket when I've been biking at speeds and survived.

It's got a nice weight to it and the only issues I have with it is the camera quality, but if you wanted a good camera then get a Panasonic lumix tz8..
