2x2gb corsair dominator 12800
2x2gb corsair xms3 12800

xfx 750w psu
xfx 4770

advice? :(

have you tried the 4gb on its own? or even 1 2gb stick in on its own to make sure its not one of the sticks that is faulty?

What timings and voltages have you used?
Is you system trying to run the Dominator sticks in dual channel with the XMS3 ones?

I recently added 2x2gb corsair dominator to my PC, but already had 2x2gb dominator in there to start with.

Check voltages and timings, don't rely on autodetect. If they're bob on then pull the new RAM out.

Memtest86 is your friend...

Take the new RAM out, run memtest.
Take old RAM out and fit new. Run memtest.

This way you can rule out any faulty sticks.

Sounds like a dual channeling issuse to me.

let me check manual. bios/startup thingy says its unganged so shouldnt be dual channel-ing.

pulled the sticks out and explorer is behaving.

time to test new sticks on their own. brb

just put the new 4gb in on its own, in the old memory's place - 'boot up stopped to save damaging your hardware' message came up. so it's definitley something to do with the memory.

but atm I'm running 1.75V through it, although I did try 1.65 earlier (with 8gb) and it still didnt work properly.

1.75V

XMS3 is rated at 1.55-1.65V and can quite often be run at around 1.5V.

What voltage does your Dominator need? The Dominator on sale now is 1.55-1.65V.

Perhaps your PC has saved you from frying your RAM.

It was 3 notches up on the bios, and thats how it came in the overclock bundle.

Although I put it down yesterday, and I tried it at 1.65 first and still had problems.

I think we have a prime suspect though:

Is that the old RAM or the new?

The new RAM won't have liked 1.75V if that's what it was set at. It could have caused a bit of damage.

As I mentioned earlier, the first time I tried the new stuff, the voltage was at 1.6 - I put the voltage down before it even arrived. I was getting BSOD and strange behaviour at this voltage too. Memtest is the new memory - xms3.

1.75V as mentioned is crazy! You said that's how it came as an overclocked bundle?
yes, 1.75v was how it was setup when it arrived as part of an OC bundle.

Modules are the same 9-9-9-24, however, it might be worth slacking them off slightly but the vdimm of 1.75v is slightly worrying. Have tried contacting the shop asking if this was correct?
