alas it's that time of year

17 lol seriously...

Turn off the PC, go out with some friends meet some nice girls or boys and just have fun... 17 going on 70... get over yourself and on with living.

Seventeen? I thought you were older than that (I mean that as a compliment). You're a baby yet, don't worry about your age. If you're looking for advice forget about growing older and live for the day. Carpe diem. Don't get to 40 and wonder where your 20s and 30s went.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -- Mark Twain

Happy birthday.

Dont worry, its actually totally cool, because life doesnt change hugely - but you end up getting loads more money, can buy cars, and girls become more interesting.

They got less interesting to me at 17, pretending to find them interesting was quickly replaced with trying to poke their spleens.

You'll probably feel the same way at various intervals in your life. You're just old enough to start to understand that you are mortal, but you'll get reminded of it off and on for a while.

For example, someone recently started working in the same place as me. I remember when their mother was pregnant with them. That made me feel older.

I had an odd conversation with someone about bunny rabbits and evil a couple of days ago. I referred to the rabbit in The Quest for the Holy Grail (with big, sharp pointy teeth!) and they had no idea what I was talking about. It was like a reference to a 1950s film for me.

Then there's the physical things. My left knee's a bit knackered. Minor injuries take longer to heal. You start to notice these things at ~40 and the gradual degradation of your body really slaps you in the face with your inevitable death.

But I'm a lot wiser than I was 20 years ago. Win some, lose some.

18 was my favourite year so far, being the first year of University. 21 hasn't been that epic. I do believe the best is yet to come.
