... going of the gigabyte z68ud5 review the ssd caching thing isnt all that really.

video encoding using the hd3000 is something that i would never really use either

All the high-end (P67-equivalent) Gigabyte Z68 boards DON'T support IGP/LucidVirtu - which was their best feature IMHO. Major disappointment.

i dont think lucid/virtu is all that, this is what hardwareheaven have to say about it, this is from their double gigabyte/asus z68 review, suppose it can only get better tho

In our testing, which covered Cyberlink and Arcsoft video convertors and DVD playback software with hardware acceleration there was no occasion where the Intel GPU and Virtua was able to outperform Stream or CUDA on a discrete card.

That brings us to I mode which uses a mix of our discrete GPU and on-board GPU, outputting the signal via the motherboard outputs. Sadly this is reliant on profiles and if our experience with Hydra is anything to go by the driver updates will be far from frequent which is a real issue for gamers. Take a handful of the latest titles as an example... Dragon Age 2 or Shogun 2... maybe F1 2010... none have profiles in Virtu at this time. Software such as 3DMark 11 does, though there are minor issues such as random long load times and support for GPUs such as the 6990 is lacking... with Virtu enabled our 3DMark score drops from 9000+ to a little over 5000 in performance mode.

So that's 2 modes and neither, at this time, is worth using which means that yet again on our motherboards we have a Lucid technology which increases cost and reduces ease of use. The only saving grace is that on Z68, at least on the board we tested, the Virtu can basically be ignored. Disable it in the BIOS, connect your discrete GPU as normal and stick to the AMD/ATI drivers with their better game support, more frequent driver updates and equally good (if not better) GPU computing technology.

Decided to buy the gigabyte managed to get it for £259.99 delivered. happy days.
will post a review compared to my p8p67 deluxe as soon as it arrives.

sorry cant say where i got the mobo just search as i did. sorry.

well this is why i went for a mobo with the nf200 too, it arrived today..its the maximus. you should see a gain but personally im going to end up getting another 6950(trifire), i want to game smoothly at 5760x1200 with full eyecandy, but i will deffos be trying both my 50's again in the maximus and see what increase i get. the extra pcie lanes are supposed to make a big difference but only @eyefin res, normal one screen res and theres no diff between 8x and 16x, even 4x theres not much in it.

Hi there im more intrested in a smooth gameplay. ie when i bump all setting up. some games like rift run up to 100 fps on my old board but stutter.
on my rampage 3 extreme x16 x16 wow was smooth. but running p8p67 deluxe get some stutter now and then but didnt get it on my rampage 3 extreme. think its lane saturation @ high res. thats why i wanted a board for x16 x16. will be adding another ati card for tri fire will look nice all watercooled.

yep i will be watering all mine too, what were your eyefin res's when you had your rampage?

what case have you got, i will have to hack my existing thermaltake armour case to get the third card in. what size rad/s are you going to use and will there be two loops?

Im using the Haf X case loads of room inside.
tripple thermochill pa120.3 pa rad top.
thermochill pa120.1 rad back 2 ek gpu waterblocks.
heatkiller v3 on cpu xspc with mpc 655 pump inside res.
all on same loop both cards and cpu. under full load card not going over 50c
cpu is about same as well @ 4.8 ghz. amazing case for air flow and this is with fans on low speed.

sick setup mate

i was watercooling my previous gpu 8800gtx with my current q6600 with a full sized 120.2 push/pull and a crappy pump, temps were good, and airflow inside the case was/is excellent. have a 6950 in there at the mo.

i have all the bits for my new build except for fans and gpu blocks. i have the same pump and will be going for the same res as you(does the res split and then you just fit the pump in?) as space is limited in my case. oh also hacked in a slimline 120.2 in the roof and will probabl be putting a 120.1 in the back.

will get the massive xigmatek elysium case in the near future if the one im using turns out unsuitable for this build.

good to speak to someone who has a similar seup to mine

Real easy to fit pump. pump bots inside of the right hand side of res.
only uses half the res for pump other side for the water. super easy to install.
just make sure u tighten screws for pump to res good. its totaly silent cant hear pump and no bubbles in loop @ all. been best res i have ever bought and had loads. in a few months will instal another 6950 for trifire.
my res is 5880x1080. ;)

wtf ive just realised this asuk maximus doesnt even do 16x16, for a 300quid board and for it to have the nf200 and plx chip, and 3 full lane pcie's, you would have thought it could do 16x16 instead of 8x8. the only reason why im not sending this back is because it does 16x16x8 for trifire which is what im after.

hang on, how can it do 16x16x8 and not do 16x16.????? will look into it

dazboots, what speeds does your z68 run three cards at?

There is only one P67A and Z68 motherboard that will do 16x16x8 and that is the UD7.
