A KwikFit Monkey put the tyres back onto one of my older cars facing the wrong direction after balancing the front wheels and yes, it definitely made a difference!
I looked like a complete loon as I skidded to a halt at every set of lights if it was even slightly damp. The difference when they were swapped back was marked!
Not necesserily, but you're not complying with the manufacturers instructions. It's a bit like the ABS system i suppose, you don't have to have it but if it's there it has to work despite the fact that not working is no more dangerous than not having it at all.
We had to put two new tyres on my mum's clio a few years ago for the MOT, we replaced the two ropey ones and put the new ones on the front. Unknown to me that meant that the only one of the old ones was facing the "correct" way, and the mean gits failed it again
It fails an MOT as instead of clearing any water it works in t he opposite way and pulls the water into the tyre!
So fine to drive on in the dry but not in the wet.
