HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Considering this HD but am slightly confused as to whether the Desire S is better?

What say you guys?

There is no point in buying this now. There are better single core phones like the SE arc and the Incredible S. HTC also bringing out the Sensation soon as well. If you want a good now go and get the Samsung Galaxy S 2.

Well, apart from the fact that I can't afford any of those.

I really like my Desire HD, rooted and flashed its managing to keep up pretty good against newer phones :) There is a LOT of support for it on XDA

Wow Sense 3 looks stunning! Spotted it out for download when I went to grab the new ARHD ROM but thought I'd give it a miss as I need my phone to function properly and figured it would still be a bit buggy.. Can't wait for the further releases though! :D

Better, not necessarily. If we take away the front facing cameras, the phones are pretty much the same. The Xperia Arc display, I felt, was a bit washed out (but that's just me) and the digitiser was very easy to see. The Incredible S display, like the Desire SLCD, I felt was a bit white and colours a bit...bright, but still a very nice display. As for interface...not many are a fan of SE's Android interface, but that's personal choice.

My advice, either wait and get a GS2, Sensation, or save your money and look at a DHD on eBay, new and SIM-free, they are going for a very nice price now, then go on giffgaff. Depends on what you want out of your phone.

I've just order my Desire HD as well, as my upgrade with Orange. I realise it's not the newest phone any more, but for the price, it makes much more sense than getting a slightly better new phone. After trading in my Hero, it'll end up being £35 for the phone, and £9 p/m for unlimited texts, 30 mins and internet. Which since I hardly use 1 minute of call, makes it quite good. Any of the new Samsung's and SE's where £150 minimum for the phone.

The DHD in a custom rom/kernal absolutely flys, the battery lasts a good day of average use and Sense 3.0 and most new versions of Android will be on it for quite some times via custom roms. Still a good buy and a cracking phone!

That's what I'm hoping for. I've enjoyed keeping my Hero up to date with custom ROMs, and even now I still think it works great, just for £35 it'll be worth upgrading for the bigger screen and newer hardware.

Finally cracked last night and installed the unbranded Gingerbread RUU from XDA Developers, 10-15 minutes later and everything was updated without any issues.

Come on OTA 2.3 upgrade on voda!! :( Although not so fussed about it coming now I have removed some apps and have had it on for 30 hours and still 52% battery left somehow!

which HTC is the best "all rounder" ? for music, web surfing and such ?

Considering that they all run the same ROM, and many have the same hardware, surely that's a vague question?

I would set a budget first, then base your purchase on that. However...if you don't want to run Sense (it's not as useful as you think), look at a Samsung Galaxy S2.
