Struggling on a new video card to get.

I'm pretty much going for ATI now as it seems they have the better benchmarks for quite a few games + DX11 but.

Do i just buy one 6xxx card or should i get two 5850 series with cross fire.

I've got i5 2500k with a 8800gts 640mb and I'm really struggling to decide on what to buy.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

how much have you got to spend?.

I went went from 5850 to a 6950 flashed to a 6970 a hugh improvment, Even if you went from your card now to 5850 that will be a hugh improvment.
Depending on how much you have to spend i would say get the 6950 and flash it to 6970 but for £109 you can get a 5850 and that will still run all the games out there.
What res do you game at?

I'd personally get a 6950 then try source a cheap second 6950 in the future for awesome x-fire performance.

+ you'd have the ability to flash to a 6970 as previous poster mentioned.

Currently I res at 1360 x 768. I know quite unbelievable at this time but I'm looking to grab a new monitor. (Haven't been impressed by all the 120hz ones)

I wouldn't game anything higher than 1080p anyway.

I don't mind spending up to £200 really. I'm just looking for best bang for buck.

Why not?

2x 5850's will likely be noisy and hot to be completely honest.

To be completley honest, either a single 5850 or a 470 would be just fine for you and your res I reckon, but obviously having a 6950 or 6970 puts you in slightly better stead for the future.

Still think you should consider a 570 if you are considering a 6970 though.

Only because I won't be buying a monitor that goes beyond that res.
I would have got the Asus 236H if they had a 27 inch model. As the monitor I'm currently I'm using is 26".

I'll think i'll grab a Sapphire 5850 and then probably a hard drive or some extra parts.

Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it.

Just be aware that tessellation performance won't be 'the best', so a little bit in the future you will possibly have to reduce that feature. I don't think it's that much of a biggy though :-)

A 5850 is an absolute bargain card at the moment IMO compared to the newer kit prices. I don't really think the 6xxx series has raised the bar enough to justify their prices.
