Thinking about buying Witcher on GoG, just wondering how much freedom you have to develop your character. Can you play as a "good guy" or a "bad guy"? Can you forge relationships with NPCs that significantly alter the way the game progresses?

ive been playing for about 5 hours and i dont think you make any decisions that reflect on you being good or evil but i may be wrong.

you level up and the when you rest by a fire you can assign talent points to upgrade your skills and so on!

hope this helps :)

There's not a static number to say you did good or bad.

It's more how your own morals work, you can choose to annihilate someone or not but it won't be like YOU CHOSE THIS OPTION YAY. It just continues with the story depending on your choice.

I love the game a lot. :p

The consequences might not be apparent for some time depending on the choice, and there isn't always a clear good\evil decision either. You can choose to aid different sides more than once or even be completely neutral.

There's not really any good or bad in this game, you'll probably regret some of the choices you made but by the time the consequences become apparent it'll be too late to go back.

The game itself follows a very linear progression and while you do have some freedom it generally only manifests as forks in the storyline.

It's still an excellent game though.

Just started playing. I'm really not enjoying the combat system. I don't seem to have any control over the fight scenes.

Clicking does the basic attack, but if you click again when you see the flaming sword icon Geralt can string together combos. Later you get a few more weapons and "signs" (basically magic spells).

Do you read the tutorial windows that appear? They explain it pretty clearly. You have super detailed journal that records everything too.

It couldn't be more user friendly, seriously.

When I said that I don't have any control over the fight scenes that was a bit of an exaggeration. I know how to fight, I just don't particularly like it. Hoping this gets better once I start using magic.

It does a little... the fight scenes are a little more hands off in some respects... especially at first.

If you just accept that though - its suprising how you don't notice it when the games get going.

And spells/magic/combos etc.... do make it more interesting later on... there still is a lack of certain control compared to other more fight orientated games.

At least play until you kill the Beast, it's not far off from getting to the really interesting part of the game.

Weren't there some mods that improved the combat a little? Neil is usually the one to point out the relevant websites :p

The combat system is all about timing really in this one.

When you see the orange trail, do another click, on any enemy to initiate 2nd combo and then final combo at the start. The more talents you put into fast, group or strong steel you unlock more combo sequences.

It's marmite for some as it does feel like a hybrid of dice rolling and real time. :)
