Douglas Adams

Meh books were ok but the radio broadcast the first written and released was his best work

Agreed. I rate the radio series far above any other incarnation.

I still haven't seen the film! It looked **** and I don't want my memories trampled on. Am I doing the right thing?

Same. The first format I ever heard it in, lost count of the amount of times I've listened :p

Don't watch the film whatever you do. It really is bad.

The films alright! I don't think you will be disappointed, it's just good fun.

my favorite books of all time. i remember being in the car going to school when it was announced on the radio that he had died.

dont forget the last chance to see books as well.

Absolutely amazing book and author. After I bought my kindle my (way older than me) copy of hitch hikers is the only physical book I kept.

IMO, of course!

Grew up with Douglas Adams, and must also recommend 'Dirk Gently's Detective Agency' and 'The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul' to those who haven't sample their delights.

RIP Douglas :(

And before anyone here says it, the recent film is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be, in fact i thought it was a fantasic update and wished they did a sequel

The radio adaption was superb
the radio series wasn't an adaptation, the radio series was the original.

Radio series and books are awesome, the tv series and the film are awesome in their own way but not on the same level as the radio series.

I was very pleased with the further radio series they did to finish it off.

DA worked on it though, it had been in the making for a good 10 years when it was released, I don't think they'd do another without his involvement (yet anyway)

On the Dirk Gently note, I know it went down to mixed reviews at christmas but the bbc adaptation has been commissioned for a mini series. I thought it worked really well so looking forward to it.

Dylan Moran should have played Arthur... yes even with his accent. His mannerisms just seem to suit Arthur to a tee.

"The insurance business is completely screwy now. You know they've reintroduced the death penalty for insurance company directors?"
"Really?" said Arthur. "No, I didn't. For what offense?"
Trillian frowned.
"What do you mean, offense?"
"I see."

It's a shame so many fans haven't read the Dirk Gently books. They are an exceptional read. It's also where my online moniker originated!

Interesting choice... but yeah, there should be a sequel. I know DA worked on the first one but there's no reason they can't do it without him, would have to be a pretty good writer to do it justice. Just throwing it out there, but Eoin Colfer?

*doffs cap to the 7th Python.*

I think that when I go shopping in a few minutes I'll take HHGTTG, Fit the First to Fit The Sixth with me.

May 25th - International Towel Day. I've got a Don't Panic towel from several years ago that I will have with me. :D

Oh, and if anyone doesn't have any of the radio series/audiobooks http://www.audiogo.co.uk/ will have them for 42% off for that day only. :D
