Think i've just replaced my old Laguna...as i can't be assed to do the welding on the o/s it'll need for test :D.

51 reg Vectra 2.0 DTi, mot'd until the start of december, taxed until the end of june, 4 new tyres fitted in december, serviced at the same time as well and all old mot's to prove a genuine 130k . Didn't really want a diseasel but it'll do...its a bit scruffy but hey, it just means i won't panic about leaving it in a supermarket carpark...
:)

The 2.0DTi engine is crap - 100PS iirc? I used a Vectra on placement and at one point had the 2.0Dti but did not realise - I thought it was broken as I had assumed the whole fleet were the 120PS 1.9CDTI.
You said yourself it is a scruffy car.

I hope it was cheap!

:(

I don't really get this any more than I'd get the idea of going on a camping holiday in a field in Liverpool because the farmer let you stay there for free. There is such a thing is too cheap :p

I know mate...i don't really like it, but its cheap, i need to take it while i can and tbh...if i started tapping away at the Laguna, the entire rear of the offside innner and outer sill, plus bits of the floor are as weak as tissue...thats more welding than i want to commit myself too!!! :D. And the Vectra is £200, so it'll do for now...hell, the Laguna was £250 plus a few bits and my time and i got six years out of that and should get about £100 when i weigh it in!!!
:D

I on the other hand totally get it! A fully running car for £200? The ability to get around for next to nothing? Not having to give a rats ass about it? What's not to like!

I understand bangernomics much more than i will ever understand someone "who just wants to get A->B" buying a £14k 1.4 Corsa.

Agreed. As long as your car isn't something you totally rely on, and you're not interested in looks/performance, a banger seems like a good choice to me.

Nothing too wrong with those cars at that price, amazing economy on them for the size and age. I can routinely get 55+ mpg on mine on motorway runs. Just isn't the quickest car around but you can't exactly drive super quick in London anyway.

I think the one thing that gets me about it, is the fact they have maybe bolted a turbo for something with a hell of a lot more performance to it...laaaaaaaag...but, beggars can't be choosers. Although i'm sure i could probably get to work faster in the Bedford Rascal van someones dumped at our place...
:D

Some people have different priorities and standards - afterall some people like good quality food, whilst some are happy with supermarket 'chicken steaks' ;):p.

What kind of condition? Got any pics? Sounds like a good deal, so did the Laguna... 6 years for £250 is a bargain! Sounds like you know what you are doing (you're a mechanic right?)

If I knew anything about maintaining and repairing cars I think I'd do the same too, although I'd still have to have a nice car on the side for fun :)

Going glasto this year but not sure what car to take, will probably have my new car by then but even still I doubt I'll take my current BM. Sometimes you need a banger for the odd run around. Anyone wanna loan me one for end of June? :p

Not got any pics mate, conditions okay but as you'd expect its got a few scuffs here and there...and the rear bumpers had a bit of a knock on one side. Interiors held up okay though...just needs a hoover.
:)

Well after the first few weeks, things ain't going too bad. Leak off pipes replaced, along with a new fuel filter and new seals in the filter housing mean its a lot more happy to start after being stood overnight! :D. Boss donated a new GM battery after killing mine leaving it hooked up to a trailer that was having electrics done for most of the day with the lights and radio on.

Broken spring to replace on the back now (gonna do both), oil and filter again...and we can start looking for what'll need doing for test in december. Bonus points for it being only £40-odd more to tax for a year than my Laguna was for 6 months as well...
:)

If you are reliant on cars. Two bangers for £400 works.

It's like RAID1 for cars.
