I'd say I agree with you here, but to me what they did was worse than other stupid things parents might do because of the deliberateness of it. They were leaving their young children unattended for half an hour at a time, and a lot can happen in half an hour (be it get scared, choke on something, fall over, or get abducted). I suppose you could say that not paying attention while your child runs off in a supermarket is just as much neglect as leaving them in a hotel room, but at least the parent doesn't actually intend that the child does this risky thing, and it can be assumed they take reasonable steps to prevent it. The McCanns took no steps to prevent their young children being left on their own for half an hour or more.Yes they were stupid but I would wager that 99% of parents could have lost their children 100 times by the time their children are 10. Leaving them in a locked hotel room is probably not even in the top 10 stupid things people do to their children.
Is it just me that feels that the parents are cashing in on Madeleine McCann kidnapping.
The way I see it, they are just doing everything they can to keep the search in the mind's of the public. I'm sure they are well aware of the case's overexposure in the media but if it brings her back then it would be worth it. I hope all parents would do everything within their power to find a missing child.
I'm slightly ashamed that people could be so negative about them. That people think so negatively they can't speak on a public forum is astounding.
Also, I think the armchair detectives would revel in the event if they are proven right. What annoys me is that innocent people can be deemed guilty by the public just for being a convenient target. It opens the door to more cases like this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13161170

The two cases are completely unrelated.
I absolutely agree.
From day one, the public loathed and mistrusted them when they found out Maddie was left alone before she went missing.
If they can keep her name in the news and fund their search, then good for them and maybe, just maybe someone will come up with the answer of what actually happened.
They are both GP's I if they are both partners they will bring in 90 to 125k per year each. I don't think they need to write a book for a few extra quid.
I just see a sad couple who are very much at fault for losing their child, they are clinging on to the smallest bit of hope of getting her back and have probably become a little obsessed with it and completely devastated by the guilt.

I think they did it. Maybe not on purpose but they had something to do with it.
There's something not right about the McCanns, regardless of whether or not they are guilty of anything.
Looking at some of the posts in this thread, I really despair at what society has become!
